Why did q101 get shut down
It's strange to think that Q won't be around to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind in September. The way we listen to music has evolved so much since I bought that on cassette tape to listen to on my Walkman. And of course it's not just music.
And here's the blog reflecting on that. Last week, the news came out that OLTL had been "saved" by a company that will air it online only. Details on how that will work still aren't entirely clear and I have my doubts that it will ever be the same. The way we are reading is changing, too. I have to say I'm not completely comfortable with it. It scares me a bit and I'm beginning to feel like I can't keep up. The internet changed everything, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst, but that's a whole other thing that I don't really want to get into right now.
Maybe this is all hitting me extra hard because it's the day after my 32nd birthday and I'm already dealing with a mixture of nostalgia and a hell of a lot of uncertainty about the next directions to take with my life and especially my writing. Strangely, I'm feeling as out of place as I did when Q went alternative when I was It all comes full-circle, so maybe I should just go lay on my bed, burn some incense and turn the radio up and write in my journal until I figure things out like used to back then.
My one last thought is that I wish Q had stayed true to it's less-mainstream roots in the early 90s, though that definitely would not have saved them. While the station isn't perfect, I lost faith in it when I lost faith in "alternative rock" in general, but I know there are still some cool bands out there. Sure enough, they were amazing and it brought back that feeling of being twelve and wanting to run out to the record store and look for them.
Thanks for giving me that feeling one last time, Q I loved you and I loved to hate you, but mostly I'm grateful for all the music you helped me enjoy. Posted by Stephanie Kuehnert at PM. The stations who stay alive, and continue to fight off these perceptions are the stations who can consistently display the power of their reach. The top two stations that come to mind are These two stations face the same issues as Q This is not a magic bullet.
This will not happen over night. Two things will happen though: Our community and the Q experience will grow, and Chicago radio will take notice we will pursue this. We will not be able to get Q on the radio without executing the above. We broadcast on the internet. Some are very passionate about Chicago and Q Most are not as passionate about Q as you are.
You have to remember, they were hired guns. They were employees. Some of them have moved on to other radio jobs in other markets. The show must go on. Some of them are undoubtedly thinking of getting out of radio. Some of them had day jobs too. Quite frankly: Some, perhaps, were caught off-guard by the developments of the Emmis sale and it seems to have cast a pall over us, too. Q was a music revolution in the early 90s. Q was community, it was home, local as well as national.
What the hell do 18 year olds have to listen to now? The Barbra Streisand club song? Loved Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now its over. Going to a black and white news station. Hey, thats what AM radio is for. FM Terrestrial Radio is dead. In Chicago you now have the Loop which may get pulled because it was also bought out by the boneheads that are turning q to news.
You got XRT and the drive and 2 top 40 inner city club dance stations. I hope you suck a big one Merlin. Choke on the fact that no one turns on the FM for news. Everyone just has an IPod on or satillite radio going in thier car now anyway. As for me? They have alternative 90s channels. Where else am I going to hear Rage Against the Machine?
If the station was making money there is no way it would have been changed. He sucked a few years ago on Jack FM. Home Entertainment Celebs. Tom Roe. They are not mannequins whose sole purpose is to be used by the player whenever they feel like. I don't really want them to have progress bar indicators exposing game mechanics because in immersive, narrative driven games, mechanics should be hidden.
With things like the Johnny affinity meter I have no idea why its even in the game. All it did for me is give me a false impression of how far away the end of the game was.
CS Senior user 86 Feb 20, Following the River is the most awkward shit I ever played in my life. The fact that V is so flirty towards him, even though she's already in a relationship, makes it that much worse. And it wouldn't be so bad if my V is straight, but she wasn't. I think they know how popular he is and it would be a shame to ignore this. Post automatically merged: Feb 20, How come one of these doesn't have the word "girlfriend" in them? Which, when picked, could immediately make River realize that he is not your type and end it right there and then. View attachment The only way to make it less awkward is to choose the other chain of choices where V is quoting him all the shit pick-up lines she has gotten in the past.
But even then, you can interpret that as V being straight - again, which is just, what the hell. Last edited: Feb 20, Soykaff Senior user 90 Feb 20, Tofujunky Forum regular 91 Feb 21, Soykaff said:.
