However, after watching a show called "Gang Land" I am extremely concerned about relocating to CA period! Although I have visited Van Nuys it was only one time for a short period of time to view a few apts.
I did notice that many of the neighborhoods were largely populated by hispanics which did not bother us at all I think it used to be, decades ago. But lately, the proximity and influence of parent, big manic L. A, I thought there was just too much petty crime going on, especially during weekends. Maybe someone else on here who grew up there, or lives in better neighborhood, might tell a different tale. But thats my version. Define safe. Van Nuys isn't perfect. There are a fair amount of African American's in Van Nuys.
Why Van Nuys? I would never live there. There are so many better areas in the Valley. Miss Pip. At the time, Van Nuys had a population of around 2, people.
In , a high school was opened in the growing Van Nuys. The main building was completed in but later destroyed in the Long Beach Earthquake.
Remnants of the building were incorporated into a new main building and auditorium. The Van Nuys High School auditorium was designed with a large beautiful pipe organ, built by a company also located in Van Nuys.
Although damaged in the Northridge earthquake, the pipe organ was restored in In , the city built a municipal building in Van Nuys. Located at the corner of Sylmar Avenue and Sylvan Street, the building looks quite similar to Los Angeles's downtown city hall.
After the Northridge earthquake in , the building was renovated, and then restored in The "S. The park gets few visitors during the week and early in the morning, but it tends to draw crowds on the weekends in the summer months.

The park is a pleasant mix of open natural spaces and humanmade attractions. It features a network of well-marked paths leading to a number of distinct areas.
The property is frequently featured in popular movies and television shows, but it must be visited as part of a docent-led tour.
