The illustrations in this book are simply lovely. Bright and engaging, the animals convey so much emotion that it is simply delightful to pour over each one. The concept is wonderful. This title allows the reader to share one story with young children, which has to do with animals and their sounds, while providing the opportunity to dig deeper for extension activities with older children. On each panel or spread, Ziefert has a side panel with more information about the animal in question that yo The illustrations in this book are simply lovely.


The only reason I'm not giving this a higher rating is because this story seems to end abruptly with no closing. There's a page with a concept idea for snakes a side panel with info about them , but then no main story line eg snakes hiss good night. It seems strange to just stop this way. Still, though, I highly recommend this work. Nov 09, Earl rated it liked it. This is another example of what you think would be a traditional picture book but it's actually very informative.


One can read the story throughout and enjoy the pictures. And then they can go back and read the nonfiction text to learn more about animal sounds and what they mean- or just read it as they go through.


Dec 19, Barbara rated it liked it Shelves: picture-books. This book can be enjoyed on multiple age levels. Smaller children will enjoy imitating the animal calls in the story and older children will enjoy the more detailed explanations of the way animals make sounds.
