What is the difference between 3960x and 3930k

Previous Next Sort by votes. Feb 16, 0 18, 4. I did a bit of research and couldnt find any substantial difference in performance between these two processors, their overclocks and everything are almost identical. So whats the point of spending dollars extra on a x if the k does the exact same thing??

Apart from the unlocked multiplier, what else is there?? They both top out at 4. Am i missing out on something or?

Jun 20, 0 19, 6. Just to rip you off. Actually both processors will allow for 64 gigs of RAM. I have a k and it can use 64 gigs. Sandy Bridge E is great for workstations running multi-threaded apps.

It was designed as a workstation processor. If I was a gamer, no its a waste of money. Still its cheaper then the Sandy Bridge E Xeon based processors. Jul 14, 3, 0 22, Nothing but a lot of money. If I am to advise you, I would forget about socket its a novalty that wears off a few days after purchase, and hits your bank account hard, factor in resale on ebay, amazon and the works will see you lose half value within days should you choose to sell it.

In all Socket is only for the money is not a option select, if you are then by all means, if you value your money and what you get then I can suggest looking elsewhere. Jul 12, 1, 1 20, They both have unlocked multipliers so there is no difference there. The only real difference between them is 3MB L3 cache. But since they've already got quite a lot of cache this doesn's bring any benefit. The other differences are that K's are better binned. That means that they can usualy work with a bit more voltage.

And the most important thing is that you can brag that you've got the best chip out there. To some people that might actually mean something but to me Yip, epeen status. Its bad when a ivybridge setup is enough to show up just how bad Socket is, this wasn't the case with where my X blew away all comers. Feb 10, 2, 0 19, Any socket setup is a waste for Unless you have a professional need for a workstation to be used in a production environment and then there are argueably better options its all wannabe e-peen.

I can get a SR-x with Xeons for less and they can do any productivity based application faster, and its all still cheaper. SB-e is pointless, its like choosing between a heated butter knife or steak knife and persisting to cut the same block of butter. Yea im not planning on buying a socket, just wanted to know why theres a dollar price range difference between the two, i thought their might be some legitimate reason i may have missed, clearly i was right in thinking its just stupid marketing.

If i were to upgrade, i would just chuck in a i7 upgraded from my and run that at 5. Ivy bridge surprisingly tops out at 4. Sucha useless upgrade from and in my eyes. Actuallt core i7 's don't clock that high.

They topped out at around 4. And not all LGA processors are pointless. It's just the six cores. Small semiconductors provide better performance and reduced power consumption. Chipsets with a higher number of transistors, semiconductor components of electronic devices, offer more computational power.

A small form factor allows more transistors to fit on a chip, therefore increasing its performance. GPU clock speed Unknown. The graphics processing unit GPU has a higher clock speed. The thermal design power TDP is the maximum amount of power the cooling system needs to dissipate.

A lower TDP typically means that it consumes less power. Newer versions can support more bandwidth and deliver better performance. If the CPU exceeds the maximum operating temperature then problems such as random resets can occur. DirectX version Unknown. DirectX is used in games, with newer versions supporting better graphics. A higher transistor count generally indicates a newer, more powerful processor. OpenGL version Unknown. OpenGL is used in games, with newer versions supporting better graphics.

Performance 1. CPU speed 24 x 3. The CPU speed indicates how many processing cycles per second can be executed by a CPU, considering all of its cores processing units.

It is calculated by adding the clock rates of each core or, in the case of multi-core processors employing different microarchitectures, of each group of cores. CPU threads More threads result in faster performance and better multitasking. L2 cache 12MB. A larger L2 cache results in faster CPU and system-wide performance.

When the CPU is running below its limitations, it can boost to a higher clock speed in order to give increased performance. L3 cache MB. A larger L3 cache results in faster CPU and system-wide performance.

L1 cache KB. A larger L1 cache results in faster CPU and system-wide performance. L2 core 0. More data can be stored in the L2 cache for access by each core of the CPU. Some processors come with an unlocked multiplier which makes them easy to overclock, allowing you to gain increased performance in games and other apps. L3 core 5. More data can be stored in the L3 cache for access by each core of the CPU.
