Dr Kalam got a chance to become President of India in and served till He was keen on another term as President but this was not possible for various reasons. Before I disclose what really attracted me to Dr Kalam, let me give a brief description of his very fruitful life. He started literally at the bottom of the ladder.
His parents were not well off. But he never lost sight of getting properly educated. After graduating from there, he took up a position of chief scientist at the DRDO. His years at the ISRO were the most crucial ones; he successfully led many important projects. Now I am ready to discuss why Dr Kalam is such a good role model. Surely, he must have faults like all of us, but his good qualities stand out. Needless to say, he excellent in his chosen fields.
He was the Chief Executive of the MDP, which researched simultaneous development of a quiver of missiles instead of taking planned missiles one by one. From all that I have learnt about him, he had great internal purity. His being a practising Muslim must have helped him in this regard. He certainly did have positive attitude, otherwise he would never have ventured in fields which were at the nascent stage in India when he started.
He had a spotless character, which is an essential quality for a role model. His behaviour was also standard, amply shown throughout his life. Before I go into further qualities a role model should have, I must mention that Dr Kalam had an open mind and he was well versed with Hindu traditions.
