Australian brand, Bakers Delight, is celebrating its 40th year in business. Born-and-bread in by founders Lesley and Roger Gillespie, the family-owned business now has stores world-wide, spanning Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, with over franchise partners.


In , Roger and Lesley saw a gap in the market, with Australians seeking quality, well-priced baked goods that were convenient. The origin of the name was conceived from the simple notion that they are bakers who live to delight.


Joint CEO Elise Gillespie — daughter of Lesley and Roger who took the reins in — said the brand has become a household name across the country, with this anniversary an opportunity to reflect on its rich family history and value the business brings to the Australian economy, while sharing future growth plans. We started as a small family business, and while our presence has continued to grow throughout Australia and beyond, our core values and community-focus still rings true today.


A tin of flour fell into a bag of magic dust used to make the dough, and thus Breadhead was born. A landmark partnership, the money goes directly to the support of thousands of Australians and their families who are affected by breast cancer. We launched our Edgemont bakery in Vancouver, British Columbia. By we had successfully expanded into Canada and were experiencing further growth in Australia and New Zealand.


This brought our total up to more than bakeries in operation. A quarter of a century! It may have felt just like yesterday that we opened our first bakery in Melbourne, but Bakers Delight celebrated turning 25 in style. Three years after COBS Bread first opened its doors to the Canadian public, we were thrilled to move into two more provinces.


We opened in Edmonton, Alberta and Toronto, Ontario. Tastier and softer than most white bread, our Hi-Fibre Lo-GI bread proved a real winner for our customers and is still one of our top selling loaves. We put a lot of time and effort into making sure every single slice of bread we produce is up to the same high standard.


This breakthrough in bread has been rigorously tested for appropriate levels of FODMAPs, allowing those with intolerances and sensitive tummies to enjoy bread without the discomfort.
