Alicia esteve head where is she now
Rumours soon spread through the survivors' group: Tania Head's story couldn't be trusted. Parts were exaggerated, embellished or simply not true. Tania's real name, the paper revealed, was Alicia Esteve Head. On September 11, , she was not in the south tower of the WTC. She was not even in New York, or the U.
She was in Barcelona, a pupil at a business college. Merrill Lynch had no record of her, not even as an applicant for an internship. Everything she wove into her story was gleaned from newspaper and magazine reports, including Dave's identity.
In particular, she stole many facts from an interview in the New York Times with Ling Young, who worked in the New York tax department on the 86th floor of the south tower, and who was in the sky lobby when the second plane struck.
Ling was guided to safety through the rubble and flames by Welles Crowther, the man in the red bandana and a true hero of the attacks. Of all the people betrayed by Tania, none were more hurt than the Crowther family. Alicia Head was the fifth child and only daughter of a wealthy Spanish family. The scars on her arm came from a car accident in her teens, on the Spanish coast with friends. More lies.
She didn't make any attempt to brazen it out. She made no excuses. She simply vanished. Further investigation suggested she had committed no crime.
Tania didn't take funds from the group — in fact, she was a leading donor. Why she told such colossal lies, perpetrating the most offensive fraud imaginable, no one knew — just as no one knew what happened to Alicia Head next. One rumour said she returned to Spain, where she was sacked from at least one job after her lies in America caught up with her.
Another said she killed herself in , unable to live with the shame of what she had done. Far from coming to her hospital bedside, her parents were no longer in touch with her. Her current whereabouts are unknown. But film-maker Angelo Guglielmo believes he saw her once.
She was in New York, coming out of a hotel. And Angelo confronted her. Alicia Head threatened to call the police. Then she disappeared into the crowd. Dramatic new testimony from third They wound up meeting again through work, however, and formed a relationship. To honor his passing and commemorate how they met, Head left a toy taxicab at the memorial site. In fact, it's unlikely the two ever met. One of the things that made Head's story so convincing was she actually did have scars and burns on her arm. Head was the only person to sustain serious harm; she claimed her arm was severed and flew out the window, but she located it and had it reattached.
According to Head's childhood friend Sonia, the pain of the accident - combined with the stress of her family's financial scandal - caused her to "live in two different worlds. No one knows why Head put so much effort into deceiving others, but one thing is certain - her motivation was not monetary gain. She didn't earn any money from her endeavor. Whatever she gained, it was social and emotional, not financial. Although Head's ruse didn't cost any money, it had a huge emotional impact on the people she built relationships with at the World Trade Center Survivor's Network.
Linda Gormley , one of Head's closest friends, was particularly hurt. For Gormley, learning her friend had been lying to her the whole time was devastating.
Gormley also spent a lot of time consoling Head and worrying about her under the assumption that she was having a traumatic reaction. Head's other friends from the organization felt alienated, betrayed, and angry - but some also claimed to miss her afterwards; not the person who lied to them, but the friend they thought they knew.
Each time, she was told the dog was being walked. Eventually, feeling it was too much of a coincidence that the dog was always out, she realized Elvis probably didn't exist.
What's more, Head claimed she traveled to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and to Thailand after the tsunami in The purpose of these alleged trips was to help with relief efforts. While these claims have not been proven or disproven, they do seem consistent with her affinity for falsely connecting herself to well-known disasters.

Years after the attacks, actor and comedian Steve Rannazzisi spoke of his own narrow escape from the 54th floor of the north tower.
Stay calm. He repeated the false claims in several other interviews, even claiming his wife had been supposed to have been in the towers but a delay had saved her life. The stupidity and guilt I have felt for many years has not abated. It was an early taste of having a public persona, and I made a terrible mistake.
Jordan Liflander claimed to have attended 47 funerals in three weeks for those who perished in the attacks. A year later, Mr Liflander was exposed as a fraud, never having worked at FDNY, let alone helped with the rescue and recovery.
Trying to fit in and be one of the guys. It just spiralled out of control and became a lie I had to live. The attacks on the Twin Towers was an act of mass murder unlike anything experienced in modern America.
Dr Loftus, a distinguished professor in psychological science at the University of California, says most people who experience a momentous historical event over the age of eight can readily recall where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news.
And having appeared as a defense witness for some of the most vilified criminals of our time, she believes we should be more empathetic and less judgmental. And they end up believing these lies. Felipe De Brigard is a professor of philosophy and cognitive neuroscience at Duke University and works at the intersection between imagination and memory.
He says determining whether a person is being intentionally deceitful, or has come to believe their own lies, is complex. He has studied the phenomenon of confabulation in patients who had damage in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that influences complex tasks such as planning, social interaction, personality and memory.
