Why is my yz250f hard to start
The only way that I can get my bike to start is to push start it. The bike is stock and the only things that I have tried to adjust are the pilot screw. Is this too much? I also tried to change the clip position on the needle jet. When it was at pos 3 I could not tell any difference, when it was at pos 5 I did notice that it took longer to decellerate.
I am using 93 pump gas and do have some backfire or popping on slowdown. The plug is tan to light brown in color. This is my first 4stroke and I feel that I do not know anything about this bike so any help ould be greatly appriciated. I would really like to understand how to get this bike running for my current conditions and then also understand what I need to do when it gets cold and less humid.

Try the starting drill with the Okie can help you he's got one that he can start first kick so he should be able to tell you what he does right. Joined Dec 21, Messages Likes 0. My F can be tempermental at times.. If you can get it started, make sure you let it warm up well with choke on. I have found that if you stall this bike while in the warm up process, it is a bear to start, having to drag it to fire Any suggestions as to why it wont start easily with e button?
Thank you for any help! The battery might be bad if it hasn't been taken care of properly ie, bike has been standing in the garage or dealer floor for long periods of time without regular charging. But the stock Yamaha battery is weak, even when it's a fully functioning unit.
For my brothers 19 yzf. We have a procedure that we kinda follow. When you first get ready to start the bike, hold the button for 2 seconds of cranking then stop. Wait 5 or so seconds. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser.
YZf Start help. Thread starter mc Start date Feb 28, Ok, so I've had this Yamaha YZf for a few months now and it's just a pain in the ass to start cold! I need some help with suggestions on a starting sequence or any carb issues you think could be the cause.
Once it finally starts and warms up And hot, it's easy to restart, one kick. I know out-of-spec valves can make it hard to start cold so today I checked them.
All perfectly within factory specs! I bought a carb rebuild kit and all new jets because when I bought it, the bike had sat for a few years with gas in the carb and tank. I've cleaned the carb at least 3 times because it looked like honey in the carb bowl when I first opened it up. It seemed to start easier when I got it but has slowly gotten worse. I literally have to kick it close to times now a days.
I tried bumping up the pilot one step today and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Maybe I just need a good starting procedure from someone who has had an YZf??? When it's cold, I've tried choke on, choke off, hot start, choke and hot start on, different throttle twists and nothing at all I know my YZf took two or three twists of the throttle, choke on and one kick I've also had a brand new 05 YZf and could start that no problem.
HELP please! Andrew definitely contains nuts. Name Andrew. The start procedure should be choke on, one twist of the throttle to squirt in some gas with the accelerator pump, then keep the throttle closed, work the kick starter to bring the piston up onto the compression, then give it a firm, full stroke kick. Also, you have a fuel screw rather than an air screw on that carb. Try with the fuel screw at 3 turns out.
One up on the pilot should help. Also, is your spark plug fresh? Yes Andrew, I put a brand new plug in it also.
I'll try it with 3 turns out tomorrow. Otherwise, I've tried the exact starting procedure you wrote, even put my right hand on the mastercylinder to keep it off the throttle. So far the best combo has been choke on, hot start pulled and it started within 25 kicks Not sure why that combo would even work. Seems like they would cancel each other out. Name Mike. I would check to be sure the choke is working. I would NOt pull the hot start.
Basically it is the opposite of the choke so using both cancel each other out. Release the decomp lever 5. Let the kick starter return back to the full up position 6. Kick it like you mean it!!! That should start the bike within kicks most of the time. There is a way to start them easier too. Here's the steps for that process: 1.
Go to the Yamaha dealer 2. Order an 03 YZ F cam 3. Wait for it to show up this will seem like forever. Install it 5. Start it just like a 2 stroke- no more drill! If you need any more help, just let us know.
Here is the drill I used. When cold motor has not been running 1. Gas on 2.
