Why does yuki hate ayame
Over time, Akito managed to convince Yuki that the other Zodiac members hated him, and the constant denigration and manipulation that he endured eventually caused him to become temporarily mute. Akito's abusive treatment of Yuki left lasting impressions upon him, giving him a fear of small, dark spaces, and a lingering fear of rejection, and the belief that no one will ever truly love him.
Due to his position as the Rat and status as Akito's favorite, Yuki had no say over his life as a child. Akito isolated him from the other Zodiac members and poisoned his mind over time as she convinced him that everyone hated him. By the time he started to attend an elite private school, Yuki had become very emotionally distant and reserved.
He managed to make friends with some kids at his school after he was invited to play soccer with them, but when he accidentally bumped into a young girl he transformed into a Rat. This event prompted Hatori to erase his new friends' memories, and he proceeded to grow up friendless until he met Tohru Honda outside Shigure's house.
Yuki is possessed by the Rat Zodiac Spirit, and as such takes on several characteristics of the Rat as well as embodying all of the Rat's traits in the hierarchy of the Zodiac.
As the Rat, Yuki is first in the Zodiac, and considered the most favored member by Akito, and this status puts a strain on Yuki's relationship with the other Zodiacs.
In particular, his status deeply affected his relationship with Kyo. When Yuki and Kyo first met, Kyo admitted that he hated Yuki because the Rat tricked the Cat into not attending the banquet in the story of the Zodiacs. Additionally, Kyo's Cat Spirit and Yuki's Rat Spirit are natural enemies, as seen by their frequent competitions which Yuki always wins due to the superior status of his Rat Spirit, further cementing Kyo's hatred of him.
While Yuki's status as the Rat Zodiac ruined his relationship with Kyo, it also managed to estrange him from his older brother, Ayame, when they were children. Since Yuki received all of the attention from the family, Ayame was left to his own devices, and as a result, he ignored the abuse that Yuki endured out of spite.
Yuki grew up feeling abandoned by his older brother and is later annoyed when Ayame tries to repair their relationship by constantly butting into Yuki's affairs. Yuki's mom and dad are awful and, believe it or not, to a much worse degree than the other zodiac members. Instead of being overprotective or fearful of him, they used Yuki for profit. Specifically, Yuki's parents sold him to Akito when he was young and often ignored him, even after he pleaded with them for help.
This drove him to run away from the main house and live with Shigure. The zodiac members don't just turn into the animals they are cursed with; they are completely possessed by them. Simply put, those who are cursed inherit some of the traits and personalities of the animal they're cursed with.
This, coincidentally, is one of the underlying reasons why Yuki and Kyo who's possessed by a cat don't get along. Yuki is constantly pushed to outdo the cat in every way. On the other hand, he is Akito's favorite thanks to rats' inherent cunning tactics in zodiac tales and lore. Despite Yuki being overwhelmingly popular and attractive, he isn't very confident. He states multiple times during the series that he is jealous of Kyo. He feels that Kyo can naturally get along with people and get close to them, while he doesn't believe he can.
When he does get bursts of confidence, however, it is usually thanks to Tohru. Ayame is Tohru's older brother and the snake of the zodiac. In the beginning, Yuki did not pay much attention to Tohru and only viewed her as a strange classmate. Inviting her to live with him and Shigure was mostly because she was in need, but also because he wanted to be rebellious against the Sohma family.
However, after Tohru begins reaching out to him, accept him without any hesitation, and offer him friendship, a listening ear, and unconditional support without expecting something in return, Yuki develops a very protective, kind, and considerate attitude towards her.
He also holds great trust in her, since she is able to awaken his desires to be himself and helps him admit his inner insecurities. Since Yuki never had a functioning relationship with his mother, the thing he craved most was unconditional love, support, and acceptance from someone that would never reject him.
However, Yuki is later able to come to accept his real feelings. He vows to find an equal relationship where he gets to receive as much as he can give, and wants to use the maternal love, warmth, and gentleness Tohru has given him as a base to truly find himself and a relationship that will make him feel complete.
Even though Yuki slowly starts distancing himself from Tohru due to joining the student council and finding his own friendship group, he remains just as protective of Tohru and mentions that he would never forgive someone if they hurt her.
For this reason, Yuki often scolds Kyo when he unintentionally treats Tohru coldly or hurts her. At the same time, Yuki becomes very supportive of her relationship with Kyo; he sees the sincerity in their well-balanced relationship, and even beats Kyo up for not visiting her in the hospital and for thinking that Yuki would be better off with her.
Yuki makes Kyo realize that he is the only one who can make Tohru happy and that he should not make her cry. Although he is a bit embarrassed about his true feelings, he expresses immense gratitude towards her for granting his wishes without asking for anything in return and helping him grow as a person.
In fact, Yuki states that it is thanks to her coming into his life that he was able to become the man he is. Initially, Yuki strongly disliked Kakeru since he reminded him of Ayame. Nevertheless, during one of their first interactions where Kakeru says Yuki is an interesting person, Yuki is happy since no one had said something like that to him before.
Yuki is also envious of Kakeru since he finds him similar to Kyo in the sense that he is able to socialize and make friends easily. Kakeru manages to take his worry, relate to it, and be supportive of it. Likewise, Kakeru opens up about his family situation, and it is through Yuki that Kakeru learns about truly feeling alone. Even though Kakeru often teases Yuki, he is always looking out for him and making sure he is alright, which Yuki appreciates.
Tohru notes that it is thanks to meeting Kakeru, that Yuki has begun smiling more. Originally, Yuki did not hate Kyo and actually wanted to be friends with him. But Kyo refused, as he hated Yuki simply for being the Rat. Because of this, both of them are seen sharing a mutual hatred towards one another at the beginning of the story. Whenever they talk or interact, they are always at odds and at each other's throats frequently. At the same time, Yuki is envious of how Kyo has the ability to easily make friends and fit into normal social settings, and is annoyed by the fact that Kyo wants to be part of the Zodiac while Yuki himself wants to escape from the Sohma family and its curse.
Kyo is also envious of Yuki, as in how he is "perfect", always able to take advantage of a situation as one should, and how he is accepted into the zodiac family,.
Their relationships begin to improve slightly after they meet Tohru. Because of her kindness and both of them caring deeply for Tohru, they begin to soften their attitudes toward each other and are able to cooperate when Tohru is in trouble.
Even though they do continue to argue and fight over everything, it is never through physical violence. When it was revealed that Kyo never hated Yuki for who he was, but had been so miserable with his life that he felt he needed a scapegoat for all his misfortune, their relationship became more overly complex. When Tohru is hospitalized and Kyo refuses to go see because he thinks that she would be better off with Yuki, Yuki is enraged. The two made no contact whatsoever, and Ayame often saw their mother slapping Yuki for wanting to be outside.
When young Yuki once tried to reach out for help, Ayame just brushed him off. By the time they both grew older, there was a great rift between the two.
Ayame is now trying to renew 'the bond between brothers' with many flamboyant methods, including tactless demands and clothes embroidered with phrases such as "I live for my older brother". In the manga, Ayame seems to have succeeded in 'renewing the bond' because at one point Yuki seemed to have gotten used to Ayame and both thanked him for protecting him from their mother and remarked against his mom that Ayame was not "good-for-nothing" during the parent-teacher conference chapter 72 , and also saving him using his tactless way when Yuki was injured by Akito chapter Ayame and Mine live together in an apartment on the second floor.
She is the only person that truly accepts him, and Yuki often wonders how she puts up with him. It is unknown if Mine knows of Ayame's zodiac curse. When Yuki asked this, Ayame changed the subject abruptly, implying that she does know but Ayame does not want anyone to know that.
Ayame comes to really trust and depend on Mine when he is troubled.
