The only victim there was Barkley himself, however. Through it all, he may have exasperated his wife, family and closest friends, but he never embarrassed them.

I'm going to be me. I don't live my life to worry about what other people think about me. It was my fault. I apologized. It's the same as anyone else who screws up in life. As with most incidents concerning Barkley, however, this mistake grew larger, with his help, until it metastasized across the Internet and sent him into virtual hiding for nearly a month.

He did this without stopping for the stop sign and, unfortunately for him, within full view of an unmarked police car backed into a parking space near the northeast corner of that intersection. Inside the police car was Lt. Pete Smith of the Gilbert Police Department, which was cooperating with several Phoenix-area law enforcement agencies in a DUI Taskforce that would arrest more than 2, drivers during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

On that night alone, 90 drivers, including Barkley, would be arrested. Few on the Internet know the names of the other 89, though. Just as Smith began to pursue Barkley, the SUV stopped at the side of the road and a female got into the vehicle. Barkley had not resumed driving when the police car pulled behind him, its lights flashing, and the process began of determining if Barkley was driving illegally. Shortly after the officer started questioning Barkley, he asked if his passenger was free to go.

Smith said she was and in the audio recording of what police call "the roadside contact" a pair of high heels are heard clicking away, ever softer, into the darkness of the night. Barkley was clearly drunk in the estimation of Smith. His eyes were bloodshot, watery and bounced as he tried to follow an object from side to side - HGN, in police shorthand, for Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. Outside the vehicle, Barkley was given two other standard tests, asked to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line, turn, and repeat the process, and asked to stand on one leg without falling for 30 seconds.

He did not do well. He refused a breath test, was read his rights, handcuffed, and transported to a command post on nearby Scottsdale Road. Once there, he was booked, photographed, fingerprinted, and did finally submit to a blood test.

He used his cell phone to call home at one point. The SUV was impounded, with police finding, among other things, a registered 9mm handgun, some wine coolers, and a box of bear-claw doughnuts. Barkley was told how he could retrieve the vehicle and its contents the following day. According to the police report, as the process was coming to a close and a routine questionnaire was being administered - the police like customer surveys as much as any other business - Barkley helped turn his evening from a simple arrest for drunk driving into an Internet incident.

Phelps' swing, Haney tells us, is rough with very little to praise. He came to this conclusion when he first met Phelps in in Singapore, and the two continued to put a serious focus on golfing in So now I know exactly what was keeping Phelps out of the pool in those two years, as reports kept saying Bob Bowman wasn't able to get Phelps in the water on a consistent basis in the leadup to the Olympics.

Phelps was already thinking about his retirement plans, which were still more than a year away. The first 30 minutes of the episode were pretty much fluff, getting viewers up to speed on what it's like to coach Phelps. We also got the obligatory interviews from mom Debbie and sisters Whitney and Hilary, as well as Bowman. It was great to hear Bowman tell Haney of Phelps' knack of knowing his goals and reaching them, I didn't get the sense that Phelps' goal of getting his golf game under 91 meant all that much to him.
