Australian Alex Bolt, who was in qualifying, received the final men's main draw wild card after he won the Nottingham Challenger today. Bolt, a qualifier, defeated McDonald in the semifinals and Kamil Majchrzak of Poland today in the final.

Majchrzak is the top seed in Wimbledon qualifying, and it's likely that had he or McDonald won the Nottingham Challenger, that wild card would have gone to him. The list of Wimbledon wild cards is posted here. The year-old reached 78 in the ATP rankings back in June of Newer Post Older Post Home. Subscribe to: Post Comments Atom. The German's previous two tournaments were only ended in tight third sets by Barbora Krejcikova and Belinda Bencic. But despite advancing to in the third set with well-disguised redirection that had Pattinama Kerkhove on the run, Niemeier was again unable to close out the win. Two match points serving at were squandered with a cheap error and a double fault, and ill fortune struck at when a slip on the grass necessitated a medical timeout.

Pattinama Kerkhove, 29, held firm to successfully navigate Grand Slam qualifying for the third time in 23 attempts. The sixth player to reach the main draw was Katie Volynets, who impressed with her speed and intensity in defeating former World No.

Volynets has made the most of her debut, having won all of her matches this week in straight sets. Two of the most accomplished names and compelling comeback stories in the qualifying draw will face off for one main draw place on Friday. The Bulgarian was ruthless in a , demolition of British wildcard Naiktha Bains, winning 16 of the first 20 points and needing only 52 minutes in total.

Pironkova, a Wimbledon semifinalist in , has dropped only four games in two matches this week, both of which she completed in under an hour. Interview: After four surgeries, Konjuh ready to reach full potential. The Croat, who returned from a fourth elbow surgery last September and made her third career WTA final in Belgrade in May, dominated the first set against Varvara Flink. The Russian, who gave birth to daughter Kaya last November and is embarking on her own comeback from maternity leave, was able to derail Konjuh in the second set with crafty net play.

But former World No. The Colombian, who won her maiden title at home in Bogota this April, battled past Grand Slam qualifying debutante Panna Udvardy , , in one hour and 41 minutes.

Osorio Serrano's fondness for heavy topspin and dropshots does not translate as naturally to grass as to clay yet - but her grit under pressure is undimmed. Two fabulous forehand passes in the third set were key to turning momentum in her favour. I want to pivot away from seeded players and talk about a couple unseeded players that could do some damage on the grass. World No. Anton Matusevich started off this grass-court season by playing Ramkumar Ramanathan who I will discuss later in the first round of Nottingham 1 Challenger qualifying.

And while Matusevich lost that match in a third-set tiebreak, he showed great promise. Matusevich is a very clean ball striker and hits with remarkable depth and precision. His shots generally stay lower down towards the grass, making them tough for opponents to handle and his tennis IQ is very strong. After a matchup in the 1st round of qualifying with fellow wild card William Janson, Matusevich would then take on a clay courter in either Andrea Collarini or Carlos Taberner.

With the exception of Tomic, this would be a nightmare draw on clay for Anton Matusevich. I would feel very guilty if I left Ramkumar Ramanathan off of this list.

Ramanathan employs a serve-and-volley game. With a massive first serve and soft hands at the net, along with very agressive, powerful play from the baseline, Ramanathan is a nightmare to play on the grass. In the final round of Nottingham qualifying, he got an impressive win over Kacper Zuk! These are very impressive numbers. Ramanathan has even made the final of an ATP event on grass!
