Venezuelans wanted to get away from corrupt politicians, and socialism was shown to us as the perfect solution. However, what people forgot is that corruption exists everywhere, and it will so long as people remain corruptible. Venezuela went through a slow process of gun confiscation. First, it was the registration of firearms.
Gun owners had to go to Caracas to complete the process, something that was difficult for those who lived far from the capital. Gun registration was also a difficult position to be in because people wanted to be able to have a firearm to protect themselves and their families. Furthermore, they knew what the government was up to and the inevitable end of it. As years passed, fewer people were allowed to own firearms, and the complete confiscation of guns took place in Currently, criminals are heavily armed in Venezuela, and the rest of the population have no equivalent means to defend themselves.
It was difficult for me to leave my family and career to come to the United States. I just wanted to continue to be involved in the industry. Just before Top Shot , I was going through one of the most challenging times of my life. The man I married left me, and I lost my job a week later. All of the debt was in my name, so I felt like I hit rock bottom. Focus on what you need to do now.
I focused on what I needed to do. My brother is the one who pointed Top Shot out to me. I never imagined myself on TV, but I knew that I had nothing to lose.
So, I applied. I just do it! Why not? Top Shot was a super-fun experience. One thing I can say from my 38 years of life is that whatever you do, do your best. Because you never know when that effort may come back to help you. I trained hard to be the best I could be, and I applied many of the things I learned as an Olympic shooter to my Top Shot performances. I made several mistakes. I was hesitant, indecisive and sloppy. This sentence keeps me grounded. It is a lot more fun to go to the range and put rounds downrange, but not having that option is not an excuse for not training, especially if doing your best is your mantra like it is for me.
I wake up around 5 a. My husband says our son gets his energy from me. I think he is right! I am already shooting at local matches almost every weekend. However, air travel will be on hold until things settle down a little bit more. My father-in-law has a medical condition that compromises his immune system. Hence, we are very careful where we go and interact with during these times.
Luckily, we still live in the wonderful state of Texas, which everyone knows as a Second Amendment loving state. We have tons of matches around here, and they all follow all the recommended health guidelines. So, it is awesome! What do you tell people who ask you about it and why it matters? I tell them that history has shown over and over again that after gun control comes more government control, more crimes, and more law-abiding citizens turn into criminals. Gabby is a fantastic speaker and instructor!
My fellow BetterHalf On Target club members always learns so much from her. She is an Amazing firearms instructor! I have never met an instructor who was more invested in their students. Her knowledge and teaching style were instrumental in the improvements made to my shooting and her passion is going to get me to the range more. An incredibly Positive influence to us all! An accomplished Expert shooter and teacher!
