If you're a bit further though, go to Flooded Forest and mine the rocks underwater. It's particularly common there, and you'll also get a lot of Pelagicite ore, which you'll need further down the line. As for Carpenterbugs, the most reliable I've found so far is area 4 of Moga Woods; near the entrance from area 3 is a little hole with Felynes walking around. The bug spot there has a pretty decent chance of nabbing of them each run.

Sadly, you don't appear to be able to obtain more through the farm, so you'll need to continue running into Moga Woods. Yeah, that's a problem games had back then.
