Oddly enough, Acta has managed more games than any other manager of the team since their move from Montreal in He also has the worst winning percentage of any manager who has donned a Washington Nationals uniform. Acta took the reins of the Nationals from Frank Robinson after the season.

As the game was taking a more analytical approach, Acta was tasked with turning the Nationals from the old school team based on philosophies of Robinson to a new aged, statistics based team. The Nationals, under the leadership of Acta, were able to land three first round draft picks two were first overall picks at least, in Aaron Crow, Stephen Strasburg, and Bryce Harper. Failing to sign Crow, landed them Drew Storen the following year.

In the midst of a season in , Acta was let go as manager of the Nationals. He resurfaced in , taking over a bad Cleveland Indians team.

After winning just 69 games his first year at the helm of Cleveland, he led the team to an finish in year two. Acta struggled to guide a winner on the field the next year, and with six games remaining in the season he was fired, with his team 26 games below.

We really wanted these guys the experience of a full season at the big league level. I miss everything. I miss being able to come to work everyday and see everybody.

I miss coming in to T-Mobile Park everyday. I miss flying to the different cities. I miss it all. What do you find most rewarding about being a coach? Manny Acta: Seeing guys get up the ranks, make it to the Big Leagues. What are your baseball memories as a kid?

Manny Acta: Baseball has always been our life back home in the Dominican. My dad was the one who introduced me to it from a young age. He used to take me to winter ball ballgames. I also grew up around George Bell. Seeing those guys as a kid and wanting to be like them.

Those were the times where the only thing that I could think of was coming over here, buying a lot of jeans and a lot of sneakers. Those were my memories. I was a big fan of the Red Sox and the Houston Astros….

I was one of those kids that spent all my time arguing that Carlton Fisk was better than Thurman Munson and that Jerry Remy was better than Willie Randolph…I used to be a big-time reader. I used to read a lot just to follow the game. When Seattle Mariners third base coach Manny Acta got his first managerial opportunity with the Washington Nationals in , local media wanted to see where he grew up.

Once considered a bastion of sugar cane factories, this area drew in individuals from all over the Dominican Republic and Haiti. As a way to pass the time, workers would organize baseball games on the vast fields surrounding the mills.

Naturally, with so many athletic bodies from all over the island, this created quite the competitive atmosphere. You can imagine how this might have influenced a kid whose father worked in those factories. Acta spent a lot of time playing baseball in those same fields.

This was a source of pride for Acta.
