How does figs taste

Depends what fig.. They can taste like sugar, honey, melons, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, banana, mango, vanilla Comment Post Cancel. The best way I can think of to describe them is like a light jam. Jam can be made from almost any kind of fruit, some strong and fruity, some tart, some very mild and the flavor has as many variations as there are fruits to make jam from.

Figs are like that. Best description I've seen. By far. A juicy jam, often. It is very hard to discribe what a fig taste like to me. The first fig I ever had just remined me of a mulberry but they just have a different taste to other fruit.

A melon plumb date That and what everyone else said. Last edited by cis4elk ; , PM. Calvin, Wish list is to finish working on the new house, someday. Grab a rake, paint roller, or a cordless drill and come over! When this came up last spring, I mentioned: Scientists say that resin, sort of an anti-flavor as I think of it, musky or like molasses, gives figs their characteristic figgy flavor. Makes sense, though curious that certain figs are more figgy, resinous, than others and that to my taste buds at least, a relatively few number of cultivars seem to have much resinous taste, aftertaste, or characteristic at all.

Sometimes the sugars may overpower the resin, I imagine, though other times the flavors seem simply light as with the honey figs or fresh and fruity as with the berry figs. Well they are a lot better than fig newtons!

Juicy, sweet, and berry good! I HATE newtons.. I like Zuny's description.. Between mulberry and plum with different after taste. Yeah, what Padsfan said.

I would point out to your "friend" that fresh figs don't really taste that much like dried figs at all. Zuny commented. Very true. To me, my figs taste somewhat like raspberry without the floral overtone, if that makes sense. I've also had very light honey figs which just tasted like a wisp of sweetness with a jelly consistency.

I represent that remark! Originally posted by TorontoJoe View Post. Last edited by drew51 ; , AM. Hardly see anyone who says they prefer dried figs to fresh figs. What types of figs do you ripen and dry mostly there in Michigan. I could see how Conadria and Latarolla and Atreano and some other light skin watery types might be tastier dried than fresh, and possibly even some Mt Etnas if not fully ripened. I could also see expert drying producing impressive tastes and good chewy textures.

That said, wouldn't be my preference in a lot of ways. I also like the rustic look and large berry feel of fresh figs, and no processing. But I know some people don't like the look or texture. Figs resemble the guava on the side because of the color and the seeds. Figs are very nutritious fruits and have a high level of natural sugars, soluble fiber, minerals, and essential vitamins.

If you want to pair with something, we recommend some gorgonzola, parmesan, or Gouda. As for dried figs, you can eat them as-is, just remember to find and cut off the top part with the stem. They will be chewy but soft enough for most people. The sweetest fig out there is the Black Mission fig.

All three are available in America, but Calimyrna is the most common one, grown right in California, so no need for import. Just remember that this version is green even when ripe, so you have to go by texture and how droopy it is, rather than by color.
