Why is missionary work important

2022.01.11 16:42

We are concerned with a higher destination. The purpose of our missionary work is to help the children of God fulfill a condition prescribed by our Savior and Redeemer. We preach and teach in order to baptize the children of God so that they can be saved in the celestial kingdom instead of being limited to a lesser kingdom. We do missionary work in order to baptize and confirm. That is the doctrinal basis of missionary work.

The restored gospel gives us added knowledge about Jesus Christ and His doctrine. But the uniqueness of our message is not just added knowledge. The requirement of baptism reminds us that the truths we teach are not academic. The restored gospel consists of doctrines and ordinances. We proclaim that baptism is necessary in order to redeem us from sins according to the conditions prescribed by the Redeemer and that only priesthood holders of this Church have the God-given authority that transforms the act of immersion in water into an ordinance of the everlasting gospel.

Our preaching and teaching is unto baptism. Baptism is a requirement, but why? Every member of the Church is a missionary.

We should be missionaries even if we are not formally called and set apart. We have been told by a prophet that we should show our neighbors that we love them before we warn them see Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Spencer W. Kimball [], They need to experience our friendship and fellowship. The sons of Mosiah willingly accepted their responsibility to teach the gospel.

When they were converted to the Church, their hearts were filled with compassion for others. As the gospel fills our lives with joy, we will feel this kind of love and compassion for our brothers and sisters.

We will want to share the message of the gospel with everyone who desires to listen. There are many ways we can share the gospel. Following are some suggestions:. We can show friends and others the joy we experience from living the truths of the gospel. In this way we will be a light to the world see Matthew We can overcome our natural shyness by being friendly to others and doing kind things for them.

We can help them see that we are sincerely interested in them and are not seeking personal gain. We can invite friends who are interested in learning more about the gospel into our homes to be taught by the missionaries. If our nonmember friends live too far away, we can request that missionaries in their areas visit them. We can teach our children the importance of sharing the gospel, and we can prepare them spiritually and financially to go on missions. We can also prepare ourselves to serve full-time missions in our senior years.

We can pay our tithing and contribute to the missionary fund. Missionaries go into a community to teach about Jesus Christ and the Christian faith. Missionary work depends on where the individual or group of missionaries are going international or local communities.

A missionary may perform his or her work through formal teaching in a classroom or religious setting or through informal communication. Many missionaries perform acts of community building. The particular missions goal may depend on the skill set and education of the missionaries. A missionary with a background in education, for example, may serve as a teacher in another country. Missionaries with construction experience may use their skills and knowledge to help a community in need of building infrastructure.

The most important duty of missionaries to teach people about Jesus Christ, and His great commandment to love God and to love others. This means ensuring that their actions not only fulfill a need but also are sustained after they have left the community. Many missionaries focus on the needs of the communities they are serving and integrate those needs with evangelism.
