He continued to feature prominently for the national team until , playing in all three of Iraq's FIFA Confederations Cup matches and becoming the most-capped player in Iraq's history as well as their third-highest goalscorer ever.


He is also the only player in history to score in four different and consecutive AFC Asian Cup tournaments, with one goal in , four in , one in and two in
