Morinth is actually an interesting character to have, both in terms of gameplay and story. With her loyalty power Dominate, it's wickedly fun to play with defenseless mercs and make them shoot their own teammates, especially when you can control a heavy weapon user.

It does leave Morinth herself defenseless for about two seconds while Dominate kicks in, though. Story-wise, it's interesting how almost nobody notices that your asari companion seems different from the one you took to Omega. For some reason, though, Kasumi knows, and will even warn you that Morinth might come on to you after the suicide mission. I also love Natalia Cigliuti's voice work, making her sound really seductive and alluring. Picking Morinth has no benefit for ME3.

If anything, picking Morinth has a net negative on ME3 - she shows up as a Banshee either way, but you miss out on having Samara around. And to answer Kadia, it really is just that Morinth can't help herself. It's said that the Ardat-Yakshi are driven by their mental illness, and they can't do anything about killing their partners, because they can't control the mind-melding thingy that asari do during sex. There are some great interactions with Samara in ME3 especially in the Citadel DLC that are, of course, unavailable if she died in the previous game.

If you prefer choosing Morinth, a good amount of Renegade points will be added to your pool, and Morinth alongside you will be able to take out Samara for good. Then she will disguise herself as Samara and join your crew in Normandy. If Samara was your final decision, she would return to Normandy with the Reaver power instead. It is is simple. Siding with Morinth will make her a playable squad member, but looking like Samara, as she will eliminate the real Samara prior.

Picking Samara will do the exact opposite and you return to Normandy like nothing ever happened. Morinth will have the dominate ability and Samara her Reaver power, so if you want to go all-technical, choose the one that fits most your playstyle. In regards to romance, things get even more interesting.
