My wife and I are planning to move to Luling within the next 6 months. We are excited and cannot wait. We presently live in Las Vegas, she is a retired Nurse and I did 38years with two different Police Departments, retired from both.
Anyone that can give us info on Luling other than the Patriot Settlement that is where we are moving to would be appreciated. We are non-denominational and very active in our Church in Las Vegas. I just LOVE watermelon season. I agree, good BBQ. Small town feel, nice little downtown area. You'll get used to the smell that arises in some parts of town - sulphur smell from some of oil wells.
Steel Man. If the smell of sulphur from oil wells doesn't bother you, then Luling would be fine. Most people do their shopping in Seguin or San Marcos Davis Hospital is according to several agencies that rate hospitals one of the best in the Seton system. We now also have the Warm Springs Rehab hospital that was in years past in the small town of Ottine.
This is one of the finest re-hab hospitals in the State. As to nothing going on but the Thump - perhaps they just are not hear at the right time - The Zedler Mill Foundation has over the past 6 years obtained grants to build a beautiful pavillion and also shore up parts of the old mill that are still standing - we have the first paddling trail on the San Marcos River - We still have "Night in Old Luling" - one of the few small towns that still have the one night festival left over from the Bi-Centenial - we are a "Main Street" town - not a small feat for this town - our Luling Area Oil Museum has grown - hopefully "senior" has visited it when they were in town for the Thump.
The Museum holds a juried art show once a year ' usually in September that draws artists from around the state. We have a Casi approved chili cook off in April that just this past cook-off had over entries and in the car show that is held on the same day there were also over entries.
