They have most of their bodies buried in the sand, with just their frightening looking pincers showing. I was patiently filming a couple that were close together and my waiting paid off I was quite upset, as I Love octopuses, but luckily the plucky little octopus was too tough for the Bobbit worm and escaped after a few seconds.

Green bomber worms live in the midwater of the deep ocean. They have evolved a defense mechanism to fool predators: they release bioluminescent body parts to distract and then they swim away.

One set allows them to expand and anchor one segment of their body. The other set of muscles contracts and pushes the rest of the body forward into the dirt or mud.


Annelids are schizocoelous and with a large and well-developed true coelom i. Except in leeches, the coelom is partially subdivided by septa. Hydrostatic pressure is maintained across segments and helps maintain body rigidity, allowing muscle contractions to bend the body without collapsing it. The internal organs of annelids are well developed. They include a closed, segmentally-arranged circulatory system.


The digestive system is a complete tube with mouth and anus. Gases are exchanged through the skin, or sometimes through specialized gills or modified parapodia. Each segment typically contains a pair of nephridia.


The nervous system includes a pair of cephalic ganglia attached to double nerve cords that run the length of the animal along the ventral body wall, with ganglia and branches in each segment. Annelids have some combination of tactile organs, chemoreceptors, balance receptors, and photoreceptors; some forms have fairly well developed eyes, including lenses.


The phylum includes earthworms, leeches, and marine worms known as polychaetes. Species in this phylum have metameric bodies. Segmented Bodies Metameric bodies are divided into segments called annuli. The annuli are covered in tiny hairs called setae. Setae help the worms move.


Each segment contains parts of the organism's excretory, circulatory, reproductive, and nervous system!
