Age is a key one. In addition, upon passing this course, a 15 to 17 year old student will be given an Oregon DMV drive test waiver certificate valid for two years and as a result will not be required to take any other drive tests at the DMV to get their provisional license.
These benefits, lowered cost and DMV test waiver, are not available once a student turns age 18 or gets a driver license before completing the course. Be aware that this class will require extra time from an already busy teen and family schedule. A minimum of 30 classroom hours, 12 behind-the-wheel training hours, and minutes 5 hours of home practice must be completed to pass.

For students, over the age of 17 who do not already have a license, if a parent is not available then bring a mentor, age 21 or older who has had a license for at least three years, who can help you with home practice driving. Students are encouraged to identify a friend as a potential driving partner.
In-car lessons are scheduled on days and times which are mutually agreed upon. It is required that students also receive and record a minimum of minutes 5 hours of guided driving practice, with a parents or mentor, regularly spread out during the course.
The driving portion may extend beyond the scheduled classroom dates. If you plan to be out of town in the weeks following classroom completion you should arrange with the driving instructor when the final test drive may be scheduled.
Occasionally we have students who have difficulty remembering to come to a scheduled behind-the-wheel session, come without a permit, or come without completing the required home practice or assignments. Since our teachers are paid to arrive ready to teach, if notice was not been given to the instructor in advance, and the drive must be cancelled, then after one warning a penalty fee of 35 dollars or more depending on the number of infractions must be paid before any future driving is scheduled.
It is our desire to never need to assess this penalty but such situations have occurred and may again. Registration is available year-round. Application forms are available at the Reynolds High School office and on this driver education website though we do not have on-line registration.
