The literature that supports the efficacy of brief interventions in behavior change for for alcohol, tobacco and substance misuse as well as other problematic behaviors specific to that residency program such as diet, risky sexual behaviors, and exercise is outlined.


Brief doctor-patient communication styles and strategies are addressed, including a large practice component to develop the skills that would be used in the brief intervention part of the protocol.


This section aims for a the motivational interviewing and enhancing style of communication to be viewed as helpful in general practice as well as in this protocol since there is increasing evidence of the value of patient centered communication in medical practice. Baltimore, MD Training is never easy. There are good days and then there are some not so good days. But as I said, keep the eye on the prize, rise above and remember to look at the big picture.

This program has a long history of offering an exceptional experience in Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery. Complementing our strong core OMS training, the training at Maryland includes maxillofacial oncology, major cranio-maxillofacial trauma, microvascular reconstructive surgery, and cleft surgery. Residents and guests to the program have the opportunity to hone their skils during. The application will take less than 30 minutes to complete. An e-mail with the information will be sent the day after application deadline January 2 and applicants will have 14 days to complete the supplemental application.

Emergency Medicine 2 and 3 are calendar month blocks which can vary based on the scheduled month. Students are scheduled in 5 week blocks and PGY1 residents are scheduled in calendar month blocks. UMMC is an academic, tertiary care center with more than 25 percent of its beds dedicated to the care of critically ill patients, including the R Adams Coley Shock Trauma Center.


The program also maintains relationships with other area health care teaching facilities for some elective rotations.
