Students build practical skills and knowledge reading blueprints, using construction math and earn an OSHA 30 safety certification. Through this 5-month program, advanced English language learners ESL level 8 or higher are prepared to become certified teaching assistants as an entry into a career in education. Our bilingual teaching assistants typically gain employment in DC schools working with a classroom teacher to support instruction, especially for students whose first language is not English.


Our Nurse Aide Training program is a 5-month, hours of classroom instruction along with lab skills practice sessions, prepares students to become certified nurse aides licensed in the District of Columbia. Classes are taught by a registered nurse instructor and topics include medical terminology, basic caretaking skills, and a fundamental understanding of healthcare. This 5-month training program will prepare you for a career in foodservice within the hospitality industry by focusing on basic kitchen skills, cooking principles, and customer service foundations.


The IT Fundamentals class is a 5-month program, hours of classroom instruction along with virtual simulation and hands-on practice, prepares students to become CompTIA IT Fundamentals, entry level certification in Information Technology IT Students learn the fundamentals of computing networks, operating systems, hardware, security, software development and database concepts, cloud computing and virtualization. Students will also be introduced to IT professionals, a variety of employability skills, and potential IT pathways.


Pastry chefs design confections and create signature pastries and sweets for restaurants, bakeries and other establishments. Making pastries and sweets takes a dedication to precision, an artistic eye and the dexterity and stamina to deal with the rigors of a professional kitchen. There is a high demand for skilled pastry chefs in the District of Columbia, however, so you should have a lot of opportunities to advance your career in this region.


There are no formal requirements for becoming an entry-level pastry cook. Most employers prefer candidates with a high school diploma or GED and a willingness to work hard under the supervision of the head pastry chef.


Some restaurants may require their cooks to be 21 year of age if they use liquor or spirits in their desserts. You should expect to spend several years working as an assistant pastry cook before you are experienced and knowledgeable enough to be considered for a leading role in the kitchen. Different culinary arts schools have different training programs, and while some of them are designed exclusively for beginners, others are suitable for advanced chefs while other schools offer several different levels of training in the field.


The coursework varies depending on the type of program that you have enrolled in, but all of them combine classroom teaching with laboratory instruction and education in the field of culinary arts, thus helping the students gain valuable hands-on experience in the field — some of the most commonly discussed and practiced topics are planning the food menus, baking the dishes, culinary nutrition, food and sanitation safety or food preparation in general.
