The timescale is set to weekly. Right click on the Resource Graph date labels, Figure 7, and select Timescale. Yes, the Cable Splicer is over allocated; our current schedule requires the Cable Splicer to work hour days, which is not realistic. There are numerous ways to handle resource over-allocation. The key is knowing how to investigate resource over-allocations in your scheduling software.

Employ any of the many ways to level your resources then inspect each resources allocation in the Resource Graphs using Days units for your bottom tier timescale. This way you can verify that your resources daily effort does not require an unrealistic amount of overtime. When a resource is assigned too much work in a given period, the most effective way to reallocate or reschedule the work is to examine all pertinent details and decide which trade-off to make. Add lead or lag time to a task.

Change a task's lead or lag time when the resource has more tasks assigned than can be completed during a given time period.

The simplest way to correct that overallocation is to delay one of those tasks, ideally a task with lower priority than the others. If you add delay that is less than or equal to the amount of slack on the task, you will not affect the finish date of the project. Control resource availability throughout a project. Often the only way for a resource to complete all the assigned work over the course of a project is to increase the span of dates during which the resource is available, or to specify additional unit availability.

Controlling resource availability is effective for resolving chronic overallocations over a period of time. Find a resource with available time. Find an available resource by filtering through a list of enterprise resources by skills and availability.

Decrease task duration. Decrease task duration if no actual work has been entered to reduce the amount of work required of the resource who is assigned to complete the task. If actual work has been recorded, you must manually reduce the remaining work on the task.

Assign an additional resource. Divide the work on a task between a resource already assigned to the task and another resource or resources. You can resolve resource overallocation by adjusting either tasks or resources in your project. The Overallocated field indicates whether a resource is assigned to more work on a specific task or all tasks that can be completed within a normal working capacity. Unit availability represents an amount of time, expressed as a percentage or a decimal number, that a resource can be scheduled for assigned work.

The Unit Availability field contains the percentage or number of maximum units that a work resource is available to accomplish on any tasks during any selected time period, as distributed over time.

A resource overallocation can be caused by increased duration of tasks, decreased unit availability for resources, and resources assigned to work full-time on more than one task at the same time. Leveling works by delaying tasks so the resources that are assigned to those tasks are no longer overloaded.

How can I plan my project automatically with limited ressources? After a shared resource pool is created, the resource information in each project comes from the single resource pool.

Assignment information, as well as cost rates and availability for all resources, reside in one central location.
