When it comes to racing -- really racing -- the Jamaican sprinters have been crisscrossing the globe avoiding each other. Bolt, the world-record holder, and Blake, the reigning world champion, will square off this week at the meet called, simply, the Jamaican National Senior Championships -- or, what most other countries would call the Olympic trials.

Heats in the meters start Thursday, with the final for that event set for Friday night at National Stadium in Kingston. The starts Saturday and wraps up Sunday. Bolt will be racing for the first time since being involved in what his publicist said was a "minor" car accident, while returning home from a party in the wee hours of June Both Bolt and Blake are expected to easily earn spots on the Jamaican Olympic team -- widely regarded as the fastest collection of track talent in the world.

That would presumably set them up for more significant showdowns in London, where the final is Aug. But this will be the first meeting since their meter "race" last year at the world championships, won by Blake after Bolt was disqualified for a false start, and it could set the tone for the upcoming month. On any given day, no one would ever bet against Bolt. In fact, British sports books list Bolt as a favorite to win the meters at the Olympics, with Blake as the second choice at Blake's personal best in the meters is 9.

Bolt, meanwhile, has set the world record three times: 9. He also has a handful of other 9. He wasn't, and over the past four years, he has rewritten the record books, with his mission for to establish himself as an undisputed legend of the sport, while possibly running in the 9. One is advanced and one is starting out. They're two exceptional young athletes, capable of superlative performances on any given day.

And so, Mills said, Blake has been held to a less-rigorous travel regimen leading into the most important part of the track calendar. As is the case in the United States, where sprinters Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay will be keenly interested in the action in Kingston, Jamaica holds fairly firm to the tenet that the top three in each event make the Olympics, no excuses, and nobody backs in based on their pedigree.

There is a little wiggle room in the Jamaican rulebook, but mainly in case of injuries. At the Olympic qualifier in , Jamaica's most famous woman sprinter and the country's Olympic flagbearer, Veronica Campbell-Brown, didn't finish in the top three in the meters -- considered a shocker at the time, even though it didn't undermine the country's dominance one bit.

Those three, along with Campbell-Brown, should be, once again, competing for spots on a women's team that might be even deeper than the men's. Almost lost in this conversation: Asafa Powell, the man who held the world record in the before Bolt. At 29, Powell is still running at an elite level, still trying to win a championship at a major meet, still trying to overcome his reputation as someone who does not come through when the stakes are the highest.

For anyone seriously suggesting that Bolt was cruising, are you watching the same race as the rest of us? Don't forget that Blake ran We are not talking Powell here, who is fast but doesn't have the mental ability to beat Bolt.

This is just mind games. They are both just qualifying. Neither wants to let the other know just how fast they really are. Blake is cruising as much as Bolt is. Usain Bolt does not look like he is jogging here. He was running against his biggest rivals and Blake is looking really good.

If is still a big upset. Obviously it doesn't mean that Usain olt can't run faster in a few weeks time but it might have dented his confidence if that is possible. Blake ran He certainly won't be intimidated by Bolt in London and these victories at trials, together with the growing confidence he's gained from being world m champ and the 2nd fastest m run ever, will give Yohan true belief that he can actually beat the 'invincible' one next month.

He's charismatic too - why shouldn't he use this to make his life comfortable after he retires in his early-mid30's? Perhaps by the standards to Athletics he's making more money than most, but compared to other sports he's not making that much and he's more talented than any footballer!

His non sporting life is taking over it would appear. Time to stop advertising and get training! So Blake confirms his place as a genuine contender for both the m and m titles at the Olympics. As if the prospect of Bolt vs Gay vs Powell wasn't mouth watering enough. Can't wait to see this!

I'm so glad that Yohan Blake has come along to challenge Bolt. I love Usain, but watching him finish 10m ahead of everyone else was getting a bit boring. I live near the stadium; just being nearby has already improved my running. I can now sprint to the pub next door in just over 45 seconds I watched the Michael Johnson documentary about Bolt and his main problem seemed to be a lack of discipline. Undoubtedly a fabulous natural athlete but mentally lazy and lacks the focus of a true long term great.
