It is a local event that attracts dog handlers from across the UK, and also Europe and farther afield on occasions. It also draws a great deal of support from tourists visiting the area. There are a number of families who make Dovedale Sheep Dog Trials an annual pilgrimage and organise their summer holidays to coincide with the trials.


Where there are sheep dog trials there are shepherds and where there are shepherds there is always plenty of light-hearted banter! There were no Dovedale Trials in because the English National Trials were to be held on July 30 - 31 and August 1st but these had to be postponed due to Covid To contact the following please Email as follows:.

At the end of the three days of trialling came the run off to decide the winner and captain of the English team for the International Championships to be held in Aberystwyth in September.


Sergio is the first overseas handler to win on this field and his victory was warmly applauded by all present. Since his move to Lancashire he has become a very popular handler and keen competitor. The event also saw the launch of a very special book cataloguing the history of Dovedale Sheep Dog Society from Compiled by Nigel Davis and Ian Smith the book went on sale on the opening day of the trials and generated a great deal of interest.


All sales proceeds are going to Dovedale Society to hopefully keep it going for all to enjoy well into the future. The annual trials are run over two days, Tuesday starts at 7. The Local Open is followed by a Local Nursery Trial which will see handlers from the same radius competing with their young dogs who have yet to win a trial. They are the Open dogs, and some of them possibly the champions of the future.
