At that point I got my Hotmail. I certainly didn't choose that anywhere!! I couldn't move it so uninstalled Office, actually twice, second time using a downloaded MS tool.

I managed to move the Outlook data file to the C: drive but it is still separate from the hotmail. This means that Outlook starts in the default data file with no emails. OK I can change it to the hotmail account but delete and junk don't work as they should. Junk only appears in Window 10 mail. Note : Also all my Libraries were on Onedrive, again not my choice - I have fixed that.

I have put my problem on hold for the next ten days as I have nearly exhausted my internet allowance. Since my last response I have reinstalled W10 and passed on the option to include One Drive etc. Also loaded Office for the 4th time. Will look to see how things are panning out for you and let you know how I go later. Sorry I cannot assist right now. I have fixed my issue. Problem is I don't think I did anything different from before but it worked!

As well as Hotmail I have two other email accounts. Went to Control Panel, put Mail in the search, selected show profiles and deleted the one that was there. Control Panel and Mail again and selected set up email accounts and directories. Didn't set up from Outlook that shouldn't make a difference. Choose a new profile name and then set up the Hotmail Account automatically. It took a long time so perhaps I was impatient before and stopped it! I deleted the Outlook profile and tried again, the same result.

How can I change the default Outlook Data File? I have the same question 5. Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Previous Next. Bill Edwards How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site.

In the Profile Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new email profile, and then select OK The screenshot for this step is listed below. I tried removing the data file account, but it doesn't allow me because it's set as the default account and I get the following error - "The default data file cannot be removed. The plan was to remove the data file and then add again with unchecking the "use cached option" from the control panel.

ThanksForHelping if your account is an outlook. I do not recommend an IMAP account as the default data file - your calendar and contacts will be in a folder labeled 'this computer only' and at risk of being lost as they are not backed up anywhere.

If you want the IMAP email address to be default, it's not a problem and is not related to the default data file. You can set the start up folder to be the IMAP inbox.
