Following ideas about potential reasons: keyboard layout in user profile may be different to keyboard layout on logon screen malware infection Since you say its a private computer I would exclude a scripted password reset, unless the malware infection part would do that.
Thanks for quick reply. I checked the keyboard layout possibility. But no change to keyboard layout since computer was bought. Malware infection I'm currently in process of rechecking but no issues have popped up. I'm using Malwarebytes Anti-malware Free at the moment, but if there's a better one you could recommend?
They're not willing to pay for a full licence product. There was one today but well after any login attempts and fix attempts, and then others but a very long time before the issue cropped up.
Similarly no problems in startup I can find. Best greetings from Ireland in return. Hi Michael, I would recommend to try a rootkit scanner first, i. Just an update, after a couple of malware scans I ran a full avast! As far as I can work out it's unrelated to the incident, but not much information through Google. Moving on to your latest suggestions now. Edited by k-mitynlig Tuesday, February 26, PM.
I tried to create a new user account with both blank and simple passwords. However, runas in cmd prompt worked fine for both accounts when I checked their passwords after changing them. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. When multiple keyboards are installed then you may not know which one is active at logon time. I would temporarily remove all keyboards other than your main keyboard. While the reset was happening it showed 'undoing changes' for a while, is it possible that is the reason I can't log in? Maybe, maybe not. Have a look here for further details. The reset finished and I tried to log into my account upon start up, but I couldn't.

Frederik Long. If you have a Windows installation DVD then you can go through the first few installation steps. If you have no such disk then you can do this: 1. Type these commands and press Enter after each: diskpart select disk 0 clean exit The above process will erase everything on your disk. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to Frederik Long's post on January 23, Thank you for your help. When I try to use that same computer to connect to PC 2 in my house, no go.
I make sure the office connection is shut down before I try connecting to PC 2. PC 2's name is the default from when I bought it. It's zotac. I'm the only user and that's my name. I think I know my name. I open RD, type in zotac, type in my name, hit Connect, it goes to the login page that asks for my password of the PC I'm logging into.
I'm assuming that's the same password t I put in the login window when the computer boots up. I get the message "Your credentials don't work". Please just start a discussion and come up with some answers or suggestions, don't redirect me to TechNet. What gets me is I can already log into my office computer so I think I understand how RD should work. Open Command prompt as an administrator on your local machine and type: gpedit. Apply the changes. Was this reply helpful?
