The minigames are like many of the games found on a carnival midway, but the way thegames are handled, they can feel very similar in this setting. The goal is to score high in each game, and collect carnival tickets that can be used to purchase in-game items.
While the game is intended to be light-hearted fare, the overall package just does not exude the upbeat sense of fun that it could have. The games can be repetitive in terms of controls, and some of them can be quite challenging. This is an 'Ok' selection of minigames, and while each game is explained well enough, some of the lead-up moments to actually playing could have been trimmed to cut out repetition and slow-pacing.
Intended for all ages, New Carnival Games may be received better with younger gamers; and it is a better game as a multiplayer title, with family members competiting against each other. While not a bad game, there are better Wii minigame compilations available.

Where the game truly shines is in its atmosphere and carnival feel. The graphics are nothing spectacular, with low-res textures and occasional framerate hiccups, but the art direction is solid, and the notion that one is at the midway is faithfully reproduced. The sound effects are spot-on, from the taunting and provocation from the carnies, to the bells, buzzers, and balloon pops.
The music is appropriately repetitive, and will probably drive you insane, but not before you smile warmly, recounting the good ol' days of being hustled at the test of strength. Verdict Carnival Games is a testament to consistent mediocrity; the whole package averages out to something that is neither incredible nor detestable. With players, there are undoubtedly a few fresh servings of fun, but after a few bites, the fruit turns a little sour. Some games are complete throwaways, like the claw drop and bowler coaster, but there is enough here to keep a group of people entertained.
