We live in a time where instant respawns are a must. There's a multiplayer component to the experience that's still surprisingly active.
The experience is most definitely TRON. You can turn into a light cycle at will and the combat is overall solid. It's not groundbreaking in any way, but may still bring back the TRON faithful for repeat matches. As far as the presentation side of things go, like most of the game, it's decent, but could be better.
The soundtrack is pretty great. Fits the world perfectly. The graphics capture the look of the TRON universe perfectly, but stiff animations are noticeable. Look to closely and you can see that it's pretty dated graphically. The story that bridges the gap between the two films doesn't do anything really consequential to the overall story of the universe, but still ties into things nicely. The returning Olivia Wilde playing her character is much appreciated.
The potential is here, but the refinement isn't. Things like dated design and control issues bring down the experience. Yet, the game's core ideas are good and make it pretty darn fun even in the face of some frustrations. It's also nice to see TRON get some solid video game representation. The universe is in desperate need of expansion.
As it stands it's a solid action game that's worth a look for TRON fans. Maybe that look should only be in the form a rental, but it's worth the look nonetheless. No, I wasn't blown away by it and it could have used some more work. In this genre though you can do much worse.
Plus it has that TRON setting going for it. Tron: Evolution is a action, platformer and has a level up system like most good RPGs, but is it a good game? First of all, only if you enjoy Tron: Evolution is a action, platformer and has a level up system like most good RPGs, but is it a good game? First of all, only if you enjoy platforming! If you hate platformers turn back now. If you love platforming and heart pounding light cycle chases then this is the game for you. It has its anoying "I thought that the wall was climbable but then I fell and died" moments but it's still a good platformer.
The combat is intense as you use different disks that you get by leveling up to defeat you foes and each enemy has a weakness to a certain disk. Buy the game used at a good price and you won't feel ripped off when you play this. It's a great game and you should play it if you like TRON, now! For starters the controls are some of the worst I've ever played with a 3rd person on my then again the only 3rd person I have really played and enjoyed was GoW , the camera angles are simply terrible and like most movie 3rd person games, has a mind of it's own and would rather kill you then let you play.
The online play, however unbalanced is semi fun. However, it just simply become to tedious to play after a while and for the first time in a while, I actually put down a controller and walked away from boredom After the 2nd chapter, I came back and found myself having fun, but never really kept me pleased due to the amount of times I died trying to master the controls.
The light cycle chase segments would be jaw dropping, if it wasn't handling like a drunk driving simulator Mixed: 5 out of Negative: 13 out of Official Xbox Magazine.
While you'll miss the novelty of a glowing blue joystick and an analog spinner, setting the controls to "Absolute Aim" preset C or D gives you enough precision to do battle on the Game Grid. Leave this one in your childhood memories, where you did not mind how shallow it was.
MS Xbox World. If you really must play Tron then by all means, but don't say I didn't warn you, as the appeal wears off pretty quickly. We suspect that control scheme would work better if it emulated that found in games like Robotron or Geometry Wars - though that wouldn't be as authentic, it could make Tron a fantastic Live Arcade game.
But as it is, this just doesn't work. Once a great game in the arcade, now not worth mentioning on Xbox Live Arcade.
The controls are way too slow and inaccurate and everything feels so outdated. Not worth points! Console Monster. Magnificently reproduced in a way to feel terrible even for a port of a arcade title.
