I am trying to install a Dish system. I live in Durham, NC, and have even read the directions! My zip code is , and under check angles, it has Azimuth at , Elevation at 34, and Skew at I could get tuned in with about a 90 signal, but I could never tune in Is there a step I am skipping? I called dish network and the person in tech support told me he had never installed a dish, but it sounded like I was doing everything right.

In doing more research on the internet, one writing had info that said some of the old dish systems were mislabeled and to try a higher elevation, but it did not say by how much.

It is also possible that you are picking up through the wrong eye. To ensure this isn't the case, toss a baseball cap over the eye marked If you lose your , then you are pointed wrong. Also, I recommend you remove the sw21 switch until you have a positive lock on with the eye.

Then, connect to just the and see if you are getting as well, without the switch. Once you have confirmed you have both satellites without the switch, add the switch to the configuration and run a Check Switch test on your box. I spoke with customer service and she told me to try 10 degrees up and down from my azimuth and a few each way on the elevation, but still no luck.

Re: HELP! First of all, you have gotta get your wife out of the tuning loop. You need the direct feedback from the tuning bar or tone to really know what you're doing. If you don't have a small TV and enough RG or extension cord to get the TV out by the dish, then use a cell phone to call your home phone which you place by the TV speaker.

Tune by the tone. Be sure you have a clear line of sight to the satellites. The signal cannot penetrate buildings, and while the trees may be bare now, in the spring, their leaves will block the signal.

You MUST connect the receiver directly to the LNB for dish alignment, since the receiver cannot properly control the switch when there is no signal from the satellite. The dish needs to be moved in small increments, and there is some delay before the tone or bar changes, be patient. Most important, many Dish dishes were mismarked at the factory. Increase the elevation 4 to 5 degrees higher than the recommended settings and try again.
