Set the paging file

2022.01.16 00:34

The minimum and maximum size of the Pagefile can be up to 1. Topics Operating Systems. See all comments Why would you adjust the size of the page file?

Why would the amount of ram you have present dictate the size you should set your page file to? That seems counter intuitive and may even make the system unstable. For instance if my computer had 8 gigabytes of ram and I wanted to open a giant 20 gigabyte TIF picture. Set the maximum size to 3 times your total RAM amount. Follow the steps above to add a custom amount that you want if the automatic amounts are too high. Out of all the various reasons you want to change your page file amount, achieving something that works well might involve some trial and error.

But in my experience, the system default has worked fine in most cases. So consider carefully the reason you might have for changing it.

There is no set size for virtual memory file. Windows automatically decides the size of the paging file depending on factors like how much RAM your system has and the size of the hard drive. If you think your virtual memory size is too small or too big, you can change paging file size with just a few clicks. Before making any changes, I encourage you to create a system backup or restore point. With that, you can restore your system if the results are not to your liking or if something bad happens.
