Unfortunately, when I had gotten 2. It simply said it cannot do it. I tried switching back again to 2. Tried manual user activation via , still nothing. Just as the title says, I am wondering if the GPS on the Droid will be able to connect and work without the phone being activated on Verizon. Would the phone still be able to pick up the satellites and my position even if m not on Verizon?


How to go back to 2. I am unrooted. The phone works fine just a little buggy at this point in time. I have a Droid that is rooted and I am to send it back after my replacement comes in the mail tomorrow.. I cannot access the boot recovery screen and the power button that puts the device to sleep has some sort of software glitch that requirers to press the power button numerous times to wake up the screen.. Otherwise the the device works fine..


I have managed to remove the SU. The only other changes I made while it has been rooted is to remove VVM, MP3 app and cooperate calander which are still hidden.. What do you think will be the outcome of this debaucle?


Rooted my Evo using the Toast rom, having tons of troubles with the SD card problem. I'm wanting to go back to stock so I can fix that? I have a phone rooted and upgraded to 2. It was like that when I bought. Some programs are uninstalled in my phone. But I want them back. And there are some new programs that I don't need.


So what can I do? And how can I do that? Does a factory reset reinstall the uninstalled stock applications? Howdy gang: Back in the 2. I never did anything with it, never loaded any Roms planed on it, just never got around to it When 2. After the OTA, I still have the "super user" ninja icon. Now I want to jump on the 2. But do I still have root? I have rooted my phone and am using the wireless tethering and can use other rooted apps.


But when I try to use the adb shell and the su command, I am getting Permission Denied. Anybody know what the hell is happening? I am rooted using the Droid 2 method with the 2. Ok, now that i have rooted When I buy the Evo at Best Buy pre-ordered , will they activate it in-store, or must I call Sprint and wait while they do something?


I am already a Sprint customer and merely upgrading my line. I was hearing things the first time this happened, but before I answered an incoming call on my Evo I heard a voice on the other end while my phone was ringing. I always just used it as a phone, nothing else, not even as a camera and I never texted, but figured if I was going to start, there would have to be a keyboard because I hate touchscreens. Off I went researching all the full qwerty models.


I also scored an LG F3Q that used Jellybean, but honestly, even though it was 2 years newer, the specs were actually crappier than the Relay. I ended up giving away the LG to my Ex who broke her phone, … then one of my precious Relays, that is when I told her she is on her own from now on regarding phones. I gotta keep my emergency replacement stash of at least 2. I had 4 of them and I have 3 of them left, a mix of locked to T-Mobile and some allegedly Unlocked, but I never bothered to check to make sure one way or the other.


I never rooted any of them, or any phone for that matter, so I just use it as-is and it works really well. I still get great 4G though, so that is a bonus. I did a little research before I bought them and mostly it was for the physical qwerty and less carrier bloat as a couple of them were from Consumer Cellular. The older and soon to be defunct 3G Samsung Gravity 3 slider dumb phone had the same bonus with bigger memory cards.


I tried it, it worked. Okay, but why should someone else decide when to upgrade for me? Upgrading, while necessary for some people, is not necessary for others, and to be forced to upgrade when it is unnecessary, as in, things are still fully functional and meet the needs of their users, why be forced to upgrade?


Looking things up a little, it kind of makes me wonder about this selection.. To be fair, I can see the whole Note 4 thing for Verizon, because that really only supported band 4 on the T-mobile network.. No support for band 2, 5, 66, 12, 71, etc.. Only bands 4 and The Soyea M Heck, I can not even find any specs for that phone..


But as for a lot of them.. I have no idea how they got on that list.. It makes me wonder what the connection between them is.. Remember how much VoLTE sucked in models? Phones would disable LTE to save power while on VoLTE-only networks, start calls then drop them, crash mid-call, or fail to authenticate. I suspect that these phones were popular enough to be temporarily supported by telco-side hacks to make them work. I had older VoLTE phones not on this list and they were completely useless for calls and texts.


This is BS really. I agree btw Planned obsolescence sucks. If I pay for a device, and pay for your service, then you should allow me to do whatever I want with it until I deem it necessary to upgrade. Not the other way around! Sorry, was being sarcastic to make a point, lol. True though, this is a slippery slope that will lead to worse outcomes. Why should they discontinue bands that are still being used? My LG G7 would also stop working..


For example, Verizon, which was the first major carrier to deploy LTE in the US, initially built its network using a sliver of MHz wireless spectrum that only it owned.


Because no one else has deployed LTE in this sliver of spectrum, no other carriers support Band 13 in their devices. But because demand for wireless data is increasing, wireless operators are starting to deploy LTE using other slivers of spectrum. This means that Verizon devices that now support 4G LTE must also include a new radio frequency band, which is called Band 4. The good thing about AWS spectrum, which uses the Band 4 device specifications, is that several other carriers are also using this sliver of spectrum for their 4G LTE networks.


What this means for consumers is that devices that support Band 4 radios for LTE will, in theory, be able to operate on any network that is deploying the AWS spectrum.


The Verizon version of the Moto X does support Band 4. But whether or not you actually get that service depends on whether the carrier has deployed LTE in that frequency band in the geographic location where you are using your device. It could also depend on the quality of the radio or where you are standing or any number of other factors. Exactly, why we didn't see the service, I can't explain. What does this mean for consumers buying smartphones off contract?


If you'd like the flexibility to switch wireless carriers without getting a new phone, it means that you need to educate yourself on the different technologies and frequency bands supported on the various carriers.


And second it means, you need to carefully check the spec sheet of the device you plan to buy. Then you can match the technologies and frequencies supported on the device with the appropriate service.


In general, phones designed for GSM networks interoperate easily with each other. The reason is that these phones do not support CDMA technology. So at this point, it's not useful to try to take a GSM phone to either of these carriers or any other operators using CDMA for voice and 3G data service.


Even though Verizon and Sprint use the same basic CDMA voice and 3G technology on similar spectrum frequencies,, devices are not interoperable.


And Verizon and Sprint do not allow each other's devices to be used on their networks. I'm sure there are ways to hack devices to this, but it's not an easy process. For the most part, if you switch from Verizon to Sprint or vice versa, it requires that you buy a new handset. That said, because most if not all new Verizon and Sprint smartphones are "world phones," they also include GSM functionality. This means they have a SIM card. So if you can get the device unlocked or if in the case of Verizon it comes to you unlocked, you should be able to put a SIM card in it from any GSM carrier and it will offer basic voice, texting and 3G data.


Unfortunately for Sprint customers, the carrier is using spectrum for its LTE network that no one else is currently using. Now, there's a chance that Band 4 may be included in certain phones sold on Sprint's network. That's likely because the manufacturer has made a single "CDMA" version of the device, which it sells to Verizon and Sprint. But just because it might support that technology, it doesn't mean that the function is turned on in the phone. So there's a chance that the device may support the appropriate technology, but because it was a device made for Sprint it doesn't actually use the functionality.


Sprint recently announced that starting next year it will begin including Band 12 in some of its devices. This is a band class used for lower MHz spectrum.


Sprint doesn't own licenses in this band nor does it plan to deploy its own network in this spectrum. But the company has launched two partnership programs to work with smaller rural operators, which own this MHz spectrum and plan to build out their 4G LTE networks using it. Most rural operators as well as T-Mobile through a recent transaction with Verizon own this lower MHz spectrum.


LTE networks haven't yet been built using this spectrum, but that should be happening in the next year. The Bottom Line: Unfortunately, there aren't any devices today that work perfectly on every carrier. But you should probably still check the device spec sheets just to make sure.


You can get it unlocked, but you'll have to request an unlock code and meet the requirements of your carrier. You can buy the device at full price without a contract, and if it's a 4G LTE smartphone not a 3G device it will come without a software out-of-the box. If you go this route, you should still check the specifications of the device carefully to ensure that the Verizon smartphone you're purchasing supports Band 4 for LTE.


If all the major wireless carriers are using LTE for their next generation networks, then why aren't all the devices interoperable? But I thought that LTE was supposed to end this. Will I ever be able to do this? I understand your frustration.
