Th400 manual valve body conversion

Or run some rock hard tires. If this is a dirt only truck than the tires will spin when shifting. My own experience with manual valve bodies is that while fun to drive. They are tiresome in traffic and hard on internal parts. Look for a valve body that will shift normally in drive and has manual mode when shifted. This will help protect the transmission and your wallet if street driving is part of the plan.

Bert is my name said:. Click to expand Looks good. What engine are you running? I've always wanted to try a direct drive or dummy converter with a pedal to drop line pressure like a dirt modified roundy round car.

Don't know if it's been done in a off road car. Bring the revs up and dump the pedal. Car leaves super hard always thought it would be cool in a desert truck. The 6. The 4. Start with a bigger engine you will be time and money ahead. You will also gain durability by keeping more material in the bores. Swap the cam and springs throw a tune in it and you can achieve your power goal pretty easy and with a ton of reliability.

Since you are running a computer controlled engine why not run a 4l80? Same basic case as a and can be built into a paddle shifted 6 speed pretty easy. The 4l80 is actually stronger than the in some respects. The Reid cased that the big boys run uses 4l80 internals.

To install the assembly, slip the retainer in place with the tangs toward the spring. Slip the spring over the small end so it comes in contact with the retainer. Push up on the booster sleeve and reinstall snap ring. Make sure it seats completely into its groove.

After modifications are finished, reinstall pump assembly. STEP Remove six 6 bolts on reverse servo cover. Remove rear servo piston. Remove and discard the two rings from reverse accumulator. See Photo 5. STEP Make sure surface of rear servo is flat and smooth. If warped please replace. Sandpaper can be used to even out any slight imperfections. After installing rear servo, air check for correct installation.

STEP Install second gear release spring and second check ball supplied in kit. Second gear bore is located next to the center support bolt hole See Photo 7.

Install spring, then install check ball. The check ball will sit on top of the second gear release spring. If this measure is not correct, then remove the small spring and grind until the measurement is correct.

Reinstall and measure again. When this distance is reached, the modification is complete. It is imperative that this measurement be correct for the transmission to shift properly.

You must line up the manual valve with the detent lever of your transmission. The OEM manual valve is used with this valve body kit. The manual valve has an opening that the detent will fit into. The detent lever moves the manual valve when you manually shift the vehicle. This build has become one of our most popular due to its exceptional value and approximately 20 lbs lighter weight.

The base model will utilize an OEM case and tailhousing. It includes an aluminum forward and direct drum, aerospace material input and intermediate shafts, alloy forward hub, deep aluminum pan, lightened OEM ratio 2. Options include other ratios, Reid SFI case, roller bearing tailhousing, small diameter drums, and other valve bodies. Due to the many variations in options, please call for a quote for your custom build. We offer a TH setup for Rockcrawler and off-road applications.

We can upgrade this unit to our other level of builds as necessary for you big power off road guys. This build is based on our standard Stage 2 build. We use a reverse manual valve body with engine braking, a wider 1. A 34 element sprag, offroad specific clutch materials, lubrication modifications, and torrington bearing upgrades are added. Upgrades are available for bigger power combos. It is built specifically for the harsh conditions experienced in offroad competition.

We include a Reid Super Bellhousing and a new roller tailhousing where applicable. The next key ingredient to this package is the spragless design used instead of the typical roller clutch or sprag design used for 2nd gear.
