Normaly the desktop environment has a Display Manager who handles login sessions. I guess LXDE's display manager is not included in the core package After having issues with file permissions using the graphical text editors, I abandoned all gui elements on the Debian server and spent about 8 hours learning how to do everything that I wanted from the command line.

I am going to get some sleep, but when I get up, I will take my lines of instructions lots of white space - probably lines in total and do another install strictly following the instructions that I have compiled from many different resources.
