How do you determine which node to pull the TCP dump from? You first get the list of nodes in the AKS cluster using the Kubernetes command-line client, kubectl. Follow the instructions to connect to the cluster and run the kubectl get nodes --output wide command using the Azure portal or Azure CLI.

This redirection lets you copy the capture files you generate later to your machine. On your machine, select the Start menu, then search for and select Remote Desktop Connection. In a new Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, select Drives to expand the list of drives on your machine, and then select the drive you want to redirect. Now open a command prompt and enter the Network Shell netsh command below for capturing traces netsh trace start.
This command starts the packet capture process. While the trace is running, replicate your issue many times. This action ensures the issue has been captured within the TCP dump. Note the time stamp while you replicate the issue. To stop the packet capture when you're done, enter netsh trace stop :. After you complete the packet capture, identify the helper pod so you can copy the dump locally.
Open a second console, and then get a list of pods by running kubectl get pods , as shown below. Options for protocol are a number or:. Only used for WDS. The expressions segment of a tcpdump command allows you to add a little programming to your packet selection.
Unlike a regular program, however, this set of instructions has to be written in one line. If you are a frequent user of Unix or Linux, you will be used to the regular expressions of shell scripting and should have no problems understanding the format of these filters.
Packets that meet the test laid down by the expression will be captured. There are a few expression conditions that are not generally encountered in shell scripting and these are listed below:. There is a wireless version of WinPcap, which is called AirPcap. The tcpdump command line utility is useful for those who are familiar with the Unix and Linux operating systems and enjoy writing shell scripts. Those who are not so experienced at putting together commands with regular expressions at the command line will find it difficult to use this program. You have other options because there are many packet sniffers available, such as Wireshark, which was mentioned above.
