Pictures look great 6. Vidoes look even better 7. Tough rubber like back on the gb is nice and finger print friendly. Cons: 1. Battery does take forever to charge without the add-ons the battery charges so slow due to the software that only allows slow charging without a add-on. Not all common file formats are accessible out of the box mp4 etc.

Overall Review: Love it. The accessories are wonderful. The internal speaker would be wonderful. Really powerful device, and great price right now on newegg. The OSK is amazing. On the fly playlisting is a good effort, if not perfectly managed at this point - no way to throw entire directories into it. I love being able to stream directly from my pc! List of supported filetypes is huge - this thing has saved me the trouble of looking up game guides, I just toss them on and open them up.

Cons: Don't know where to start. I bought the unit and it heated up right out of the box when I browsed the internet, until it froze and restarted itself.

I mailed archos asking of the speaker vent was also a heat vent, because I'm left handed so it was usually covered, they replied with an rma form and nothing else. I emailed them 2 more times and they failed to get back to me at all. It was disturbing how poor their customer service was to me.

The problem seemed to vanish when I tried to keep my hands off the vent, but soon after, the speaker failed. I'm hoping I can RMA the device in time, at great inconvenience to me.

I'd hate for the speaker to have failed say at, 2 months. I don't want to bugger with archos for warranty stuff. That's just asking for trouble, I'm betting. Overall Review: Be careful. Archos products aren't known for really picking up they're own slack. Don't buy the device for "future funtionality" buy it if you like what it does now. And be careful.

These devices seem to have a very high fail rate. Pros: This gadget is great, and well made. The touch screen is easily responsive and easy to use. Quality of the music is great as well as the playback of any video you play on the Archos 5. The size of the screen is just right to enjoy a movie on, it's not too small to be an annoyance. Overall this is a great product and I would buy it over again if I had to. If your on the edge of purchasing this device I'd say go for it!

Cons: There are a few form factor issues I would have to say bother me. I am comparing this device to something that would be perfect so I'm grading the Archos 5 harshly. There is one onboard speaker on the right side of the device which is a nice detail but could of been better. I would prefer the device to at least contain another speaker on the left side for full balance of sound, also the placing of the right speaker is where you would normally hold the device while using it and your hand sometimes distorts the sound, but using earphones wins.

Other than that there are not many buttons around the device, only the volume on the right near the speaker as well as the headset jack, and the power button on the left side. The first time I turned on the Archos 5 the Web TV was kind of disappointing due to the lack of quality of the channels.

Some are webcam shots and nothing really interesting on the Web TV. This product is very nice and become a perfect media device but with the upgrading of more plugins etc..

Pros: nice looking screen Cons: the support at archos is really bad. Most operations are performed via the touchscreen. Only the power button and volume controls are separated from the touchscreen operation. The Archos 5 media player has a fixed battery life, following the new trend of many current devices. Battery life measures at about 4 hours and 30 minutes during video playback, and 12 hours and 30 minutes during audio playback. The exterior design of the Archos 5 is made of stainless steel, which provides for a very solid build quality.

However, it also results in the player being highly prone to smugging and fingerprints. The new player also boasts Internet operations such as web browsing and email. While some Internet TV content appears clear and smooth, other services yield jerky, low resolution content. Of course, this is not under the control of Archos, but it is worth mentioning nonetheless so that buyers are not surprised.

Available accessories for the unit include the DVR Station, which allows customers to connect the Archos directly to a television for recording TV programs onto the device or transmitting content from the media player to the TV. GPS and Webcam accessories are also available. I think these small, sleek tablets will become more prevalent in the near future. They have a lot of promise to them. We've given Archos some flack before on its use of a nonstandard connector for its USB cable, but the upshot of the unique dock connection has been its compatibility with Archos accessories such as battery packs, FM tuners, video cameras, and AV docks.

The introduction of a new dock connection on the Archos 5 has severed its compatibility with existing Archos accessories, with the exception of the in-car GPS cradle. Archos is busy making new accessories for the Archos 5 including the new Archos 5 DVR Station ; however, early adopters have only a few options currently and users looking to upgrade from older models may feel some resentment over replacing their existing accessories.
