Details required :. Cancel Submit. It sounds like your active sync connection no nolnger exists and needs to be re-created. The following article includes many FAQs including how to set up a sync partnership which you may need to do again. The reason the sync now option is greyed is because it is incapable of syncing with the network for some reason the connection is not there and so it doesn't present it as an option - that more than anything suggests there's something wrong with the network despite the fact that everything else is working fine most likely some simple configuration error.

I'm not sure how the vpn connection should be configured whether domain network is correct - perhaps you can get some hep from the techies who manage the servers at your company they've probably faced this problem before. I'd start over from scratch with the instructions that worked the first time and give it another try you may need to use a new name because it may think the old one is taken even though it doesn't show a partnership.

Why by the way are we here? I mean, was it working and then all of a sudden it stopped recently - maybe with the installation of SP2 or some other update?

For more information on this, see the article Active Directory Cached Credentials overview. Thanks for article. Thanks, this is helpful. Hopefully above procedure contains enough clues so that someone can figure out what is happening and come up with a real solution.

Since the machine has the old "temporary" password cached, you need to go to the PDC emulator and change his password back to the "temporary" password there.

Then have the user connect and use the Ctrl-Alt-Del "Change Password" sequence to change their password. Then reboot the computer. I just went through this with a remote user. While you're at it, unless you have a mechanism to alert remote users to pending password expirations, consider exempting them from mandatory password changes.

What Mike said. I've had a similar situation happen when one of our users was in China. Just reset the domain password back to the old password. Have the user use another machine to login with OWA, and change his password back to whatever he was using. If the user knows the local admin account password, have him log in, then connect to the AnyConnect VPN assuming with his new password if the VPN concentrator or firewall is using AD accounts , then switch users without logging off the local admin account, then try to login with the new password.

This has been solved by creating the VPN connector with "Allow other people to use this connection" on first screen when creating it. This will allow to connect simultaneously to the VPN and profile at the same time. Also having the cached password sync with AD password.

Fire up the VPN software and log in with the network password Cisco should prompt for it since the local and the network do not match. In the password box, type the network password, the credentials will be synched with the network. You should then be able to log out of the VPN, reboot the computer and login to the network over the VPN using the same password Shouldn't even be prompted by Cisco for the password.

Business Management Systems is an IT service provider. I always just connect to the VPN then do a run-as in the command prompt with the users credentials, this causes the computer to hit the DC and update the cached credentials. But a Lock and login would also work. Excellent advice Carl! That works great for VPNs that don't connect before login as long as you know a local login to the PC or another working domain account on it. To spell it out in detail, this is for users that can't log in on the remote PC forgot old password and new domain password doesn't work and don't have VPNs that connect before login:.

A nifty trick to accomplish this without going through CMD prompt if you've ever had to spell this out for users you'll understand in Windows 7 is to do a Shift Right-Click on an executable file and you'll have the option to select Run as different user.

We instruct our users to open the Start Menu and do a Shift Right-Click on one of their recently used applications or shortcuts to perform this operation. It was put on the domain within the office with a temporary password.
