Is it bad that I couldn't stand the main chick? Mar 11, Smut Junkie rated it it was amazing Shelves: sweet-vanilla , series , read-in , library , contemporary-romance. And seriously - Theresa is out of her mind not to go for Michael!

I had a crush on him after just a few chapters! Although not heavy in the actual 'smut' factor actually, there really wasn't any smut at all! Martin creates really colorful characters who you quickly come to care about I look forward to reading the next one in the series!

Some memorable moments: She saw Michael sitting at the same table as last time. But he wasn't dressed casually in jeans and a tennis shirt. This time he was wearing tight polyester pants and a sleeveless undershirt known in some circles as a "wife beater'. Around his neck was a giant, gold Italian horn. On his left hand, an ostentatious pinky ring. On his right wrist, a braided gold bracelet thick as a dog collar. His hair was slicked back and a toothpick dangled suggestively from his lips.

I'm an Italian guy right? So I figured I'd bedda start lookin' and actin' da part. My wife's working late. Wanna go out dancin'? Intrigued, Theresa approached the box, and with Terrence watching, carefully opened it. Inside was a large, luscious square of tiramisu, along with a small white envelope, which she immediately extracted and opened.

Theresa smiled, delighted in spite of herself as she slide the card back inside the envelope. Plus I'm entitled to a life. Michael snorted derisively. Janna glanced up at her, "What? You're not my best friend anymore. It's over. Phil, clock your sister with that bat and you're a dead man, got it? It was futile. He would keep at her until she finally broke down.

Keeping her expression bland, she regarded him. I thought pre-game was when he got them all revved up and ready to fight. We'll be committing puckus interruptus.

May 03, Emilyandherlittlepinknotes rated it really liked it Shelves: romance , opposites-attract , battle-of-sexes. I am aware that a romance will guarantee steamy sex scenes and a truly happy ending with closure usually there would be a proper wedding and I have nothing against those two elements well maybe those marriage proposals bother me a bit but sometimes I have a feeling that romance writers are simply following a manual and this means poor dialogues ad entertainment for the reader.

I must admit that there are some fresh witty romance writers out there and therefore some great must read books, Body Check by Deirdre Martin is one of those. Janna is not your average helpless heroine, she is a sassy, intelligent woman with a few insecurities, Ty is not your average gentlemen, he is very stubborn and does not want to make things easy for her, arguments sparkle in this book as Ty finds himself admiring the way Janna can stand up to him.

Two fine examples of romance books that focus on sharp dialogues and yet include all necessary elements that readers expect aka steamy sex and blissful ending. Theresa and her best friend have opened their own PR business, she is working hard to put the past behind her and get on with her life. Theresa wrote him off the first night they met, when he forgot to put his teeth in.

Theresa was assaulted by one of his teammates and now she has a firm no athletes rule. Michael hires Theresa to promote his families restaurant and hopefully to spend som Theresa and her best friend have opened their own PR business, she is working hard to put the past behind her and get on with her life. Michael hires Theresa to promote his families restaurant and hopefully to spend some more time with her. Theresa tentatively starts to date Michael but has problems trusting him.

Michael tries to convince Theresa that he really is the guy for her, before she makes the mistake of choosing the boring nonsense other guy.

Theresa is strong, bull headed, wounded and prejudiced; she thinks she wants something that is wrong for her. Michael is awesome, he does everything to make Theresa laugh and he tries his hardest to help her get over her assault. They really are perfect for each other; they have some humorously embarrassing moments. They also have a few bad fights and I really thought Theresa was going to lose her chance and Michael would give up on her.

I did start getting annoyed with the main characters and Theresa started to become too much of a bitch to make me love this book. I really did like it though. Dec 13, Sarah rated it it was amazing Shelves: contemporary-romance , absolute-favorites. This is the second book in her New York Blades series. This might actually be my favorite book of Martin has an amazing ability to create characters that are funny, real, but really go through some tough stuff before the end of the book.

This one was no exception. Theresa Falconetti is a PR firm co-owner trying to get her budding business off the group. Michael Dante is a seasoned hockey player running This is the second book in her New York Blades series.

Michael Dante is a seasoned hockey player running a restaurant with his brother in Brooklyn. I could not put this book down and I cried at the end because I was so happy.

But the way Martin pulls it all together—you need to read this book. Life keeps getting in the way of my reading, but I finally managed to finish this one.

To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed in Theresa. She was a kick-ass character in the first book, but after what happened with the Russian, she's been all over the map in this one. At times I had no idea why Michael would want her at all. Michael's character was basically carrying the whole story. I only kept on reading for him.

I wouldn't have batted an eye if the author had given the role of leading Life keeps getting in the way of my reading, but I finally managed to finish this one. I wouldn't have batted an eye if the author had given the role of leading lady to another character. The way she was carrying on with the two-timing asshole Reese when all the signs were clearly there, made me dislike her.

And I loved her in the first book. I understand what happened to her was traumatic, but to go for a wimp like Reese who was cold as a fish, when you have someone like Michael chasing you all over the place - I don't get it.

In short, I liked parts of the book, other parts not so much Jul 30, Lynn rated it did not like it. It's a light read. I was really disappointed after the 1st book. I just expected a Theresa who's not as scared as a rabbit. If you compare Janna and Theresa and the way they handle situations, the 2nd book is a complete disaster compared to the 1st one.

I don't think it even earned the full 1 star rating. I just love Michael!! He's every girl's dream guy. But does Theresa see that? She pushes him away time after time and hooks up with a total schmuck instead. I hated her character so much I felt It's a light read. I hated her character so much I felt the need to beat some sense into her every couple of pages.

All her actions are based on sheer stupidity alone, and she doesn't come to her senses until she loses everything. I have never read a book with a character as messed up as she.

And what's with all the prejudices she has? And 2 effing years after her trauma, she's supposed to be over it after all the therapy she's been through. Jan 19, Gail rated it liked it Shelves: contemporary-romance , sports.

So she blows hot and cold with this Italian hockey player nice guy. I read the whole book, but I wanted to smack the heroine upside the head through most of it. They did eventually work things out. A good light read I suppose, the only thing that I struggled with was understanding the main character. She was all over the place with her feelings and at times a complete jerk.

If I was him I would have left along time ago, no deserves to be treated like that, especially when they treat you like a Queen. To me it was just a role reversed book where the girl treats the man like crap verses the other way around, like were so used to reading. I think what happened was the book needed the extra us A good light read I suppose, the only thing that I struggled with was understanding the main character. I think what happened was the book needed the extra useless drama to create the story otherwise there would be none.

It was transparent in that fact so to me the story fell flat. I knew the author was stringing out the emotional drama dating two guys, then going back and forth because really other than that there was no story. There was no page turning, nail bitting, or heart pounding effect because we already knew what was going to happen. I would still say read it for yourself, everyone has different taste and style.

This is just my personal opinion. What a great great heart filled romance I read a lot and I read fast. I am a romance junkie and most I read these days are good or terrible but rarely are any great. If you grew up near an Italian neighborhood or had many Italian friends, this was like looking in the window of the incredible Italian communities in Brooklyn.

If you are Italian you will just understand every Italian p What a great great heart filled romance I read a lot and I read fast. If you are Italian you will just understand every Italian phrase and curse. The relatives, the wake, tons of cousins Sep 10, Debby rated it liked it Shelves: romance. Theresa has a thing about not dating athletes after nearly being raped by a Russian hockey player on the team with Janna's husband Body Check - previous book. She also wants nothing to do with her Brooklyn Italian roots.

That makes Michael Dante, a hockey player with a family restaurant in Brooklyn, top of her do nothing with list. When he hires the PR company to hype the restaurant, she's forced to work with him.

Eventually they work through their issues. Semi funny, quick read. Pretty clean. Nov 20, Rosemarie rated it it was ok Shelves: romance , sports. I couldn't get into this till the very end. The whole Reese love storyline was boring and predictable AND wasn't resolved until near the end of the story. Once that storyline was safely over, the novel became slightly interesting albeit, predictable. The novel ends without a resolution on that front.

Jul 05, Angi rated it it was ok. It was very disappointing how the whole plotline went on. Especially the very serious problem F has and how people just scream at her in the worst way and she is appologizing for something she had done to her and being affected afterwards.

Not a good book. Nov 02, Amanda marked it as dnf Shelves: romance-novels. This book felt a little out dated. I really thought it was sophisticated i. How it handles trauma and dating after sexual assault. I really wished the hero would give the heroine a break.

Surprisingly, I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. Not because I felt the first book was hard to top, but because the heroine, Theresa, was so bland as a character. That is, when she wasn't coming off as a snob.

Seriously, she actually looked for excuses not to date Michael, yet was only too eager to date blue-blood Reese I totally called it, by the way, that he was up to no good. She even told Janna, her best friend and the heroine from the first book, that Michael 'wasn't who Surprisingly, I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. She even told Janna, her best friend and the heroine from the first book, that Michael 'wasn't who she envisioned for herself,' just because he's Italian like her and from the same blue-collar neighborhood where she grew up.

I think the only time I really liked Theresa was when she allowed herself to be vulnerable, and opened herself up to Michael and the love he had to offer her. In fact, Michael was what made this book so enjoyable well, him, Gemma, and Anthony. Michael was such a sweetheart; not to mention, so patient to put up with Theresa's emotional roller-coaster she likes him, she doesn't like him, she wants to date him, she doesn't want to date him — seriously, I would've told her to take a hike!

I gotta give him major points for trying to woo her with pastries instead of flowers, and I loved that he was there for her when she needed him, no matter what was going on between them. I also loved that he was persistent without being a stalker, and that the last thing he wanted to do was push Theresa into doing something she wasn't comfortable with I'll say this much for Deirdre Martin: she really handled Theresa's whole near-rape situation with aplomb in these first two books.

Okay, really, I should move on, or this review will end up just being an ode to Mikey D not that he doesn't deserve it, mind you ;. Anyway, I was happy that Ty and Janna returned, especially with Ty coming back to coach the Blades not really a spoiler, since it's mentioned within the first chapter.

And as I've mentioned above, I really liked Michael's relatives, Gemma and Anthony, and even got a kick out of their grandma, Nonna Maria. Michael's brother Anthony could be a jerk at times, but I loved his and Mikey's interactions, whether they were butting heads or just teasing each other in that way that siblings have. Who really stole the show, though, for me, was Michael and Anthony's free-spirited cousin Gemma. She always had such sage advice for her cousin Mikey, and she could be a hoot-and-a-half at times.

Besides, I always have, and will always have, a soft spot for characters that dance to their own drum. I look forward to reading her and Anthony's respective books in this series. Dec 28, Anna rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: females, hopeless romantics. Shelves: chick-lit , fiction. I loved this book!!! It's totally not your middle-of-the-road romance novel although it does possess some of the cheesiness that is common for this genre.

Most importantly, there's character development! We get to know them and like them and then there's actually something to root for when it comes time for them to get together. Theresa, the lead female, is multi-dimensional and has a real career not just a temp job, which is what happens in most romance novels.

She also has real-life family a I loved this book!!! She also has real-life family and personal problems that I could relate to that aren't directly tied to "getting the guy. The other supporting characters are also interesting in their own right. One thing I found really fascinating was that the characters are Italian-American and this adds another layer of depth to the novel because they struggle with achieving a balance between their Italian roots and their American-selves.

Although the characters and their families are specifically Italian, I felt as though a lot of second generation immigrants including myself would be able to relate to these issues. Lastly, I loved that this story actually takes place in an urban area New York City!!! No Texas. No Tennessee. No London.

The constant contrast between Brooklyn and Manhattan causes the author to bring up urban issues such as gentrification and using public transit instead of driving everywhere. Mar 04, Kylie rated it really liked it. I found it to be rather slow and meh. But I decided to give the series another try and I picked up Fair Play.

I am so happy I did this, finding it quiet enjoyable. I really hate the feeling you get that you are reading the first book for a second time instead of moving forward with the story.

Theresa was attacked in the first book, and it is clear to see that in the sequel she is still trying to deal with the past. Fiore pdf.
