Remove window vista activation

If the end user chooses to automatically activate Windows online when he sets up his computer, automatic activation begins trying to active his copy of Windows three days after he logs on for the first time. Need more help?

Can you help us improve? It's a gear-shaped icon at the top of the Start window. The Services window will open. Scroll down and click Software Protection. You'll find this service in the "S" section of the window.

On some computers, this will say sppsvc instead. Click the "Properties" icon. It's the folder-shaped icon just below the View tab in the upper-left side of the window. A new window will open.

Click Stop. This option is in the middle-left side of the window. Doing so will prompt the Software Protection service to stop running. If this button is greyed out, you will need to use the Registry instead. Click OK. It's at the bottom of the window. Your activation will remain off until you restart or update your computer, at which point you will need to disable it again. Method 2. Type regedit into Start. This will search for the Registry Editor command.

Click regedit. It's a collection of blue blocks at the top of the Start window. Click Yes when prompted. Doing so will open the Registry Editor window. Expand the "Services" folder. This will result in a long list of folders appearing.

Scroll down and select the "sppsvc" folder. Click this folder to prompt its contents to display on the right side of the window. Select the "Start" file. It's near the bottom of the list of files that's on the right side of the window. Click the Edit tab. This option is near the top-left corner of the Registry window. A drop-down menu will appear. Click Modify. It's at the top of the drop-down menu. Open Windows if you're locked out. Perform the following actions if you're locked out by the activation timer.

If you aren't locked out, skip to the next step. Select "Access your computer with reduced functionality". Confirm that you want to run it when prompted. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator. There are a couple different ways to do this: Click the Start menu, right click on Command Prompt, and select "Run as administrator". This will add 30 days to your activation timer. Put a space between slmgr and -rearm. It may take a few seconds for the confirmation to appear.

Reboot your computer. Your new day extension will take effect right away. Run the command again after 30 days. You can repeat the command three times. This will give you days total extension.

Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type slmgr -xpr. A notification with the remaining time will appear shortly. Open the Registry Editor.

Editing the Windows Registry can increase the extension to an entire year. Performing this extension is not as accepted by Microsoft. Use the tree on the left to navigate to the correct folder. You can expand each section of the registry in the left frame. Right-click the "SkipRearm" key and select "Modify". You'll find this key in the right frame when you've selected the SL folder.
