Is there any command in the batch to update the gui interface? Maybe if you add a string for that it may help. Again, i do not know everything there is to know about DOS but will try to help to my best ability.
Well, the Welcome Screen was definately blocking things. I saw the output when I disabled the Welcome Screen. However, what I did not see, as expected, was that when I re-enabled it, it did not go to the top, but blocked it again. That blows part of my theory about why the Welcome Screen blocks it. I can trace a few other things I did before though. I remember I tried out a New GINA, which is a technical replacement of a Windows part that somebody made, because I wanted to try running more scripts.
I just wanted to add more script functionallity because I am currently searching for scripts that can be run on events with Windows and freeware.
Only useful ones though, not just any way to run them automatically. That way my network can stop needing me to set it up some, but do more independently for itself, now that I've attatched some more network equipment and made things more complicated to configure for flexabillity of what users can configure without harming the network.
Or another theory that remains, is maybe I chose to start running so many more scripts that when I use the Welcome Screen it can't update it's GUI fast enough to show me the rest of the stuff.
Actually, I'm thinking this is the more likely theory. Do you know any stuff in the registry you can configure to make the Welcome Screen faster? I do know it is slow alright even in normal circumstances. Scrolling down to find my user can take awhile and when I click the logon button, it takes awhile to show me the password area.
When I type the password in, it certainly also tends to be sluggish, taking about 10 seconds to update the GUI and then logon. Well i beleive this may be a reason why many business and educational buildings disable such things.
Because it is simply more recource efficient and allows the running of scripts. What is the big deal of having to type in a username anyway, then letting your scripts run as soon as the user logs into windows?
Nothing is the big deal about it to me, except for on the computers we've got running Windows XP, for some it's so much easier to click on stuff rather than type in a name.
So if it doesn't mess other stuff up in the end, if it can be configured somehow, I want it to be, then it's up to the end user which to ultimately choose, and doesn't force them to choose one or the other. Although I haven't yet tried it, it might even be impossible for some people in the house to learn stuff other than the Welcome Screen as it stands now anyway. They might just grasp only how to do the Welcome Screen and may have trouble remembering how to type in a username and password completely manually.
Therefore I'd simply prefer to make it up to the user about which choice to make about that, and simply attempt to make them aware of the choice.
So what I did, is finally just decided not to make it visible. At any point during the update process, you should be able to access your files. This change will impact anonymous users attempting to access resources hosted on computers running Windows XP Professional.
