I didn't find what I wanted, so I thought maybe someone might be able to tell me. I want a way to protect a download link. Specifically, I have a PDF file people can download after registering for a newsletter.


The newsletter registration is handled by another application, with it's forms embeded into Joomla pages. Once the user has confirmed their email address they are taken to a Joomla page where a link is provided to a PDF file. Currently that link can be copied and shared, so that people can download it without joining the newsletter. I want a way for the link to be protected. I have seen PHP scripts, for instance, that will generate a random link which is valid for a set amount of time like 10 minutes, or whatever.
