Since the core Flip demographic is looking for a seamless video experience from start to finish, Pure Digital has focused heavily on the built-in editing software. As with the previous generation Flip camcorders, the SlideHD comes with the software built right into the camcorder.

The Flip will be detected and thumbnails of all your video clips will appear in the main interface. From here, you can watch your clips, copy files to your computer, share videos online, or do some simple editing. You can also capture still photos from your video or prepare a folder of clips to burn onto a DVD.

There isn't a lot offered in terms of advanced editing, but what is offered is incredibly simple to use. You can't make any image adjustments inside the FlipShare software, so you'll need to tweak contrast, add digital effects, and adjust color in a more advanced software package. TotalMedia Extreme doesn't have the best organization or layout, but it is the kind of thing we're accustomed to seeing from consumer camcorders.

In comparison, however, all of the Flip models come with much more streamlined, and easy-to-use software that is entirely built into the camcorders' internal memory and the software works on macs. TotalMedia Extreme does give you quite a few options.

We found the software to be rather sluggish, though, which may be another result of the program trying to do too much at once. We'd rather have a bare-bones software that works more efficiently, than a slow, complicated program that has more features.

TotalMedia Extreme is not built into the CS1's internal memory, but the camcorder does have an embedded program called Xacti Screen Capture. The program is essentially useless, as all it is is a screen capture utility that allows you to save images of your PC desktop onto the camcorder's internal memory or inserted memory card.

Since most computers have some sort of print screen option, there's really not much of a reason to use the Xacti Screen Capture program, unless you want to make things more confusing for yourself.
