There are two download links for the windows version any version actually , but one top one is for the current released version, version 4. Some settings anything that hits the Windows Registry for example may be shared but since they all stem from the same code there should not be any real problems as far as I can tell.

Question Do I download all files or one of the 8 other files? You clicked on the beta test links. Is that what you want? If you are not familiar with LightZone, maybe you should try the v4.

I have watched most of the videos on Youtube. Every video shows a Raw tone curve and Raw adjustments toolbar. I have neither on my copy of Lightzone 4 and I cant see any way of loading them up in the edit mode. Please tell me what I am overlooking. Are you editing raw images? And for those who are really good at editing, here is an image taken with the X-E2 on the Li River between Guilin and Yangshuo.

I have no idea as to how to make that image look any good in C A fabulous part of the world, but the image had "delete" written all over it but I kept it to see what maybe one day I can do with it. Here's my offering Darktable.

The flowers: exposure corrected, saturation up, sharpen a bit using the equaliser module, a bit of clarity using the equaliser module, apply a slight vignette and light denoising.

I also added some grain as a subjective preference. RawTherapee 5. Both the flowers and the landscape photos look like good candidates for a [ Play Raw ] exercise if you want to see what other users of dt or RT can do with them.

Applied dehaze, pulled down highlights to get detail in the clouds. Then applied curve to add contrast in the mountains and brighten image.

A little sharpening. WB as shot, a bit of extra saturation, contrast adj. No local adjustments. I don't have an artist in me, and my personal taste is quite different from others, but since I use darktable exclusively the last few years, chiming in for diversity. Noise is unavoidable since I don't want to loose fine details and colors just my personal prefs. For the scene, I feel the sun rays and haze make the scene dreamy, so I didn't try to lower the dark point to increase contrast.

Also, growing up in an Asia country and having seen these shots frequently, I might have a different feeling for it. I used parametric masking with this one to limit sharpening and local contrast to the bottom of the frame, and did some light NR in the sky. I spared the hot pixels in this photo because I missed them while developing the file. When I open DT I wouldn't even know where to start with my conversion as the file seems around 3 stops underexposed as the "default"??

I have of course NO idea as to how much time you spent on those conversions and wouldn't even know where to start with DarkTable not counting exposure which I had to crank up almost all the way to get a halfway visible image 2. All three images were re-downloaded by me using dpreview, NOT my original file as this could potential get you different results. RAW Therapee. Capture One.

I can already hear all those who can now see all those artifacts in Capture One and the inferiority of the file etc. I might do a blind test on a non-related website and see what one would have to say about this when the results aren't giving you a strong hint as to what to "want to see" I guess that at th end of the day I just might have MUCH lower standards than you guys as I am already reasonably happy with the inferior C1 files you mentioned artifacts??

But in all honesty, I cannot follow the superiority of either the DarkTable nor the RawTherapee files here, but then my "eye" might already be calibrated to what I want to see. I guess you can clearly see those things that seem to elude my eyes here, artifacts, wrong colours etc?? I didn't do much in the way of sharpening, is it specifically in the area that you cropped in on? The reason I ask is that I actually excluded that bank of trees including the area you cropped out from the effects of the "Equalizer" module and the "Highpass" which were what I used to add sharpening on this image.

I will have another look at my conversion and see if I can bring out more detail. Under the "Basic Group" tab scroll down to the Base Curve module. Check that the small "Power Button" icon is illuminated. From the presets menu three lines , check that "fujifilm like" is selected you can of course try other base curves if you wish! With a freshly-imported file, you should be able to see what modules are applied by default in the "History Tab". Mine looks like this when a file is freshly imported:.

If you go for what I have Markesteijn 3-pass with 5 times colour smoothing it will have a negative impact on the speed of DT while editing but should deliver the best results. Whenever I've posted there, I've found the community to be very responsive and the authors of Darktable are active there. I'll take another look at my attempt and see if I can clear up the mushiness if I get time later on! Good conversion! I had a lok at the people on the left, the gate and the bus.

Well done! I guess you are far more critical than me when it comes to looking at an image. I wouldn't even know where to start to see all those hot pixels here. But: I only spent 30 or so seconds on my conversion. Never liked the DR of the 16Mpx sensor much and found greens to be a general problem with that sensor.

The lens was stopped down to F5. When I convert landscapes and take a little more time I often enough go overboard with my attempts, like this one here, to give you an idea, not purist enough for you I would think?? The file could work well with some of the blending modes you mention as there is a bit more workable space here in the clouds.

The default looked a bit bland:. From memory I think that when I posted those in somewhere, there was some strong opposition towards my doctored version as the purists often enough want to see what was there, which in my book is an interpretation even in the second file here.
