Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement. Remove the muffler and exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement. Remove the floor panel tunnel panel front closeout panel. Remove the floor panel tunnel rear panel. Support the transmission with a suitable jack stand. Remove the transmission close out panel. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement.


Remove the front propeller shaft bolts 1 and washer support tabs 2 from the transmission. Support the rear differential with a transmission jack stand. Note: The proper nuts and bolts to be removed are those where the nut is the closest or facing the rear differential drive flange. DO NOT remove the nuts and bolt where the nuts are facing the front or propeller shaft.


Remove the propeller shaft nuts and bolts from the rear differential. Remove the left 1 and right 2 rear differential mount bolts. Lower the rear differential enough to clear the rear crossmember. Install the J protector and move the rear differential to the left side of the vehicle to remove the right rear wheel drive shaft. Remove the four differential carrier bracket bolts 1.


Separate the differential carrier 1 from the driveline support bracket 2. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Note: Steps 18 and 19 are for the replacing the driveline support. Remove the driveline support bolts 1 and the washers 2 from the transmission. Remove the driveline support 1 from the transmission and the rear differential assembly.


If servicing the driveline support, remove the nut 1 , bolt 2 , and the washer block 3 from the driveline support. Remove the driveline support 4 from the rear differential assembly. Note: Support the right rear wheel drive shaft with mechanics wire.


If servicing the rear differential assembly, remove the rear differential assembly from the vehicle. Installation Procedure 1. Clean the bolt holes in the differential carrier with brake cleaner or other suitable solvents to remove any adhesive. If servicing the driveline support, position the driveline support 4 on the differential housing.


Install the bolt plate 3 , bolts 2 for the driveline support on the differential housing. Position the driveline support 1 on the transmission. Note: Leave the driveline support bolts loose. Install the driveline support bolts 1 and washers 2. Raise the differential to just below the rear crossmember. Clean the pilot shaft 1 and the pilot hole 2 of any dirt or debris.


Apply a small amount of chassis lube on the pilot shaft 1. Align the pilot shaft 1 and the pilot hole 2. Install the propeller shaft to the transmission and differential. Note: In steps 11 and 12, finger tighten the front and rear propeller shaft nuts and bolts only.


DO NOT torque the propeller shaft nuts and bolts until the differential and driveline support have been aligned and torqued to specifications. Install the propeller shaft bolts 1 and washer support tabs 2 in the transmission drive flange. Note: Ensure that the driveline support bracket and the differential are properly joined. Align the differential carrier 1 and the torque beam bracket 2. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers. Note: Use only hands tools to tighten the driveline support bolts.


Raise and position the differential in the rear support. Note: Install the left and right rear differential bolts by hand before tightening to specifications. Install the left rear wheel drive shaft. Note: Failing to perform the following service procedure will create the wrong driveline angle for the propeller shaft and alignment of the transmission and the rear differential.


Position a scale or known straight edge across the floor pan where the driveline tunnel closeout mounts to the body. Position another scale at the transmission output shaft oil seal slinger. Using the jack stand, raise or lower the transmission until a measurement of 80 mm 3. Remove the jack stand from the rear differential. Tighten the left and right motor mount bolts. Remove the transmission jack stand.


Install the transmission close out panel. Install the floor panel tunnel panel front closeout panel. Install the floor panel tunnel rear panel. Install the muffler and exhaust pipe from the vehicle. Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle. Remove the exhaust pipe and muffler. Refer to Muffler Replacement. Remove the floor panel rear panel. Support the rear differential assembly with a suitable jack stand.


Remove the left 1 and right 2 rear differential support bolts. Remove the front differential support bolt 1. Remove the propeller shaft bolts from the transmission output flange. Remove the propeller shaft nut and bolts from the differential drive flange. Lower the rear differential assembly enough to remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Remove all debris from the pilot shaft. Apply a small amount of chassis lube on the pilot shaft and pilot shaft hole in the propeller shaft.


Position the propeller shaft on the transmission output flange. Raise the rear differential at the same time as aligning the propeller shaft pilot shaft and the propeller shaft pilot hole. Note: DO NOT tighten the propeller shaft front or rear fasteners until the front and rear differential support bolts are tighten to specifications. Hand tighten the propeller shaft bolts to the transmission output shaft flange. Hand tighten the nuts and bolts to the rear differential drive flange.


Position the rear differential assembly in the support. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section. Remove the jack stand from the rear differential assembly. Install the floor panel rear panel. Install the exhaust pipe and muffler. Remove the support and lower the vehicle. Support the rear drive module RDM. Remove the bolt from the differential case bracket assembly to body. Remove only the bolts from the coupler to the drive axle pinion flange.


For vehicles equipped the Limited Slip Differential 1. The Limited Slip Additive container capacity is greater than the amount needed. Only add the amount specified. Clean any dirt from around the differential fill plug. Remove the fill plug from the differential and drain the fluid.


Check the differential fluid level. It should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 6 mm 0. Add new fluid if necessary. Fill the differential with 75W90 synthetic axle lubricant. Lower the vehicle. Clean any dirt from around the differential drain plug. Position a drain pan under drain plug. Remove the drain plug from the differential and drain the fluid.


Remove the fill plug from the differential. Refer to Lubrication Specifications. Approximately 0. Inspect the gear lubricant level to ensure it is even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 6 mm 0.


Remove the rear differential. Refer to Differential Replacement. Remove the 9 carrier cover bolts 6. Using the pry tabs 4, 5, 7 , remove the carrier cover 3 from the differential carrier 1. Remove the O-ring seal 2 from the cover 3. Install the housing cover O-ring 2 into the groove on the housing cover 3. Apply a light coat of oil to the housing cover O-ring 2 and install the housing cover 3 onto the housing 1.


Install the rear differential. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Remove the appropriate rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.


Remove the appropriate wheel drive shaft. Using a flat bladed tool remove the differential output shaft seal. Take care not to damage any sealing surfaces. Install the differential output shaft seal 2 to the J Using the J 1 , install the differential output shaft seal 2.


Remove J 1 from the differential output shaft seal 2. Install the wheel drive shaft. Inspect the fluid level. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Note: The following service procedure is for those vehicles equipped with a manual transmission and drive line support.


For vehicles equipped with a automatic transmission, proceed to step 4. Remove the propeller shaft, differential and driveline support. Note: Remove only the propeller shaft coupler to differential flange bolts. DO NOT remove the coupler from the propeller shaft.


Remove the propeller shaft from the rear differential. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement. Carefully position the propeller shaft to the side and support using a suitable jack stand. Remove the differential carrier bracket. Install the J to the flange. While holding the J , remove the drive pinion nut using the J Remove the J from the flange. Using the J , remove the flange. Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the drive pinion seal.


Installation Procedure Note: Ensure that the pinion bore is free of dirt and debris. Install the drive pinion seal to the J Using the J 1 , install the drive pinion seal 2 in the differential 3. Remove the J 1. Install the J Install the pinion flange to the drive pinion shaft. Note: The pinion shaft threads and pinion flange nut must be free of residue and debris prior to application of the threadlocker. Clean all the residue from the pinion shaft threads and the pinion flange nut by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.


Note: Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the pinion shaft threads. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installation. Install the drive pinion flange nut to the pinion shaft.


While holding the J , use the J to tighten the drive pinion nut. Remove the J Install the differential carrier bracket. For vehicles equipped with a automatic transmission, proceed to step Install the propeller shaft, differential and driveline support. Install the propeller shaft to the differential. Support the rear differential carrier assembly with a suitable jack stand. Remove the differential mounting bracket bolt 1 frame bracket.


Note: The following service procedure is to allow for enough clearance to remove the differential mounting bracket. Loosen the 2 frame bracket bolts 2. Discard and use NEW only. Remove the 4 differential carrier mounting bracket bolts 1. Remove the differential carrier mounting bracket 2. Remove any thread locker from the bolt holes in the differential carrier with brake clean or equivalent.


Position the differential carrier bracket 2 on the differential. Hand tighten the differential frame bracket to differential carrier bolt 1. Remove the jack stand. Remove propeller shaft.
