This advice sounds familiar as some guests were also told in earlier review. So I was asked to go to SotoGrande Resort and was upgraded to a suite room. Though the room is excellent what I was expecting is the room that I have booked overlooking the beach at Vista Mar Beach location.

My experience was exactly the same experiences that I have read in earlier reviews. A beautiful old hotel right at a sandy beach. Very friendly staff. But also all other hotels near by were nearly empty. Due to the typhoon warning nearly everything in Cebu City and Mactan island was closed, but only a bit of rain and wind occurred. My stay at vista Mar was short but pleasurable.

Enjoyed the beach , swimming pools , and restaurant. The special price deals really topped off the enjoyment of my stay. The only problem we had was with the WiFI , only available in lobby but sometimes not working. I would come back again. Coming from the city, it was a wonderful change of scenery. This hotel had me at waking up to the view of the sea. And then bfast and swimming with more of the same view! Although the bfast menu was limited, the serving was very big, that 2 could have shared 1 order!

The beach was not for swimming, but then i didnt really expect that it would be. I have no complaints on this aspect because i was forewarned that if i wanted beach, mactan was not exactly the place to go.

Plus, i had come from Oslob, which had super clean waters and whalesharks! The trip by taxi was not at all difficult, thanks to google maps. For those who do not have google maps, the landmark to look out for are the Mactan Newtown development and the mactan barangay hall.

From there on there are signs to follow. The resort is a very nice and clean place. The room is very clean and cozy including the bathroom, but the sink is a little bit rusty. My children enjoyed the swimming pools and the beach. Although the beach front is very small, at least you can enjoy the white sand there and it's fantastic view.

The food are also great, although a bit expensive. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The resort is a bit far from the city, but you can always ask the front desk to get a taxi for you with additional 50 pesos on top of the final taxi bill.

The taxi bill is about to pesos depending where in Cebu City are you going. If you want to spend less, you can also ask the front desk to reserve a service van for you to bring you to the airport or to Marina Mall. Please ask the front desk in advance because the seats are limited and you can only reserve it if you're going out at am or at pm.

Yes this resort may be old compared to the other resorts in Mactan Island, but its charm is still very much alive as the resort is well maintained and manned by friendly staff. Vista Mar set up rooms for us in the building in opposite side of road, which might be of the same owner. That's great when the room is bigger, swimming pool is better and still, we can use facilities of Vista Mar beach and beach front swimming pool. Breakfast is good. Wifi is ok at lobby, not in room. We are couple stayed at that resort 2 nights it was amazing n so peaceful. Nice pool n clean also nice beach. The staff was so amazing n nice they r just around u n immediately get your order n give u what u want I love that.

U have also nice cafe there with so amazing dinning area. It is the best accommodation. There are three clear swimming pools and a small but neat beach in front of the resort, and waiters are always smiling and friendly. Although the resort is located in remote areas, almost all of the Mactan are located in remote areas.

Pretty soon this hotel will just be washed away by the tide because of neglect, poor management or lack thereof and its deteriorated state. The rooms were good and comfy especially after we had a long flight to Cebu.

The staffs were very helpful sensing we were about to start complaining about many things. Here are the drawbacks and I hope the owners can address this if they want to save their property from infamy and oblivion.

Location is great on the cliff overlooking the sea but to get to the hotel from the airport could be nightmare, lack of visible signs from the main road, etc.

You can ask the front desk to call a taxi but this needs at least a 10 minute wait plus a 50 peso surcharge collected by the driver. From the lobby, the rooms are far and difficult to access up and down short stairs - no elevators. The restaurant is decrepit with a limited menu - it took 90 minutes for our order to come to the table! The aircon units in the restaurant were full blast and set at 29C. Three pools were featured in the website but one of them has been closed and full of green slime - why not just drain it and seal it off?

It's a hotel with many unrealized potentials and at present it gives a black eye to the tourism industry there. There must be a law to punish hotels that give a negative image of the city. Really had a great stay in Vista Mar with my daughter, the view is so relaxing, the friendly staff gives you a reason to smile Lock in a great price at this property.
