The negro vote in the south is a unit now mainly because it is opposed by the combined white vote. It would in no event become, as Mr.
Grady once said, "a loose cannon in a storm-tossed ship. The phrase might have dwindled into obscurity in the 20th century but for the intervention of the US president Theodore Roosevelt. William White was a noted US journalist and politician around the turn of the 20th century and was a close friend of Roosevelt.
White's Autobiography , published soon after his death in contained the following reminiscence:. He [ Roosevelt ] said: "I don't want to be the old cannon loose on the deck in the storm". This is where you come in. As Ashe you're apparently seeking revenge for the theft of your last name , you spend your days driving around particularly nasty cities collecting bounties for stopping criminals.
While this might sound like a pretty straightforward job, there's a lot more going on here than you might think. Sadly, in the interest of keeping game secrets, Digital Anvil still isn't talking about any of it. At first glance, Loose Cannon looks an awful lot like existing car combat games like I or I After a few minutes of play, you'll realize that nothing could be further from the truth.
First off, Loose Cannon takes place in one giant gameworld that reacts to the actions of the main character and his foes. In the major cities, you can drive anywhere you want, hop out of your car whenever you want and open fire on any unsuspecting citizen who's foolish enough to stand in your way although this last action may reduce your chances of finishing the game. If you hear about a crime on your police radio that sounds like it carries a bounty you're interested in, you can move yourself to the scene of the crime and join in with any police forces on the scene to try and collect it.
If you take care of business, you get the cash. If you accidentally let someone go, you'll have to pursue them sometimes to bases hidden in the countryside in order to get your reward. These criminal incidents take place whether you show up at the scene or not and if you don't collect the bounty, someone else will or the villains will get away. This is a far cry from the linear missions of the I series where you must deal with the problems at hand one at a time.
Even so, Loose Cannon will move you through a definite storyline, rewarding you with sweet little cutscenes every time you finish a big mission.
The next big difference that you'll notice about Loose Cannon is that its gameworld is huge. Rather than putting you up against linear missions that take place on a limited map, this game drops you into a game universe that works exactly like real life. If you hop on a freeway in one city and drive for awhile, you'll soon find yourself in the countryside which is a very dangerous place.
If you continue on, you'll eventually make your way to another city with its own set of crimes and bounties. There are nine cities included in the game, each of which have been loosely based on real U. So far, we've managed to sneak a look at San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York, each of which were so realistically detailed cars actually follow traffic laws as they drive around the city that we actually thought that the team had used the Midtown Madness engine to model them they hadn't.
The sheer scope of this project can't be emphasized enough. I spent about an hour driving around trying to avoid trouble just to see if I could find the edges of the world. While my route was something short of linear I explored every nook and cranny of the map , I never did run into an area that offered me no further options for exploration.
The game's developers tell us that the storyline will be built to encourage players to continue their exploration from the West coast cities where the game begins, through the heartland and eventually to the cities on the East coast. While earlier driving adventures have offered you the chance to get out of your car, it was usually a pretty bad idea and came into play only if you were extremely desperate.
In Loose Cannon, your character is the center of the adventure, not the car. When you're on foot, you'll have access to all sorts of different weapons ranging from a simple pistol to a sniper rifle, a machine gun, grenades and even a rocket launcher. Other items that can be purchased with your hard-earned bounties include bulletproof vests, and car additions like tire repair kits, land mines and spikes.
