It is too intimidating for me to work on.

It measured 3. Re: Got my dream scope today, Tek by wazz » Mar Sun 01, pm If it has those pesky red seal electrolytic caps, they need to come out. Well you can hope that the fuzzy trace is due to power supply noise that can be fixed instead of a real high time CRT.

See how much the low pass filter BW limit switch cleans up the trace, too. Re: Got my dream scope today, Tek by flanneltuba » Mar Sun 01, pm wazz wrote: If it has those pesky red seal electrolytic caps, they need to come out.

Be sure to note that the PDF documentation has two of the PSU caps shown in wrong locations; C and C specifically, are switched incorrectly with one another. At the very least the scope will not power up; just as likely, you'll cook a perfectly innocent replacement cap Screen Shot at 8.

Another good reason to swap parts one-at-a-time, instead of as a batch, like I did when I fell into the trap. It is a tight fit and a guy has to loosen or remove some of the back plate screws to get it out. The plastic mount on the bottom hangs up on the fan cutout. The hardest part was removing 4 power supply connectors buried beside the power input. Getting them back on is gonna be the fun part. The redish film caps have craze fractures in them and are bulged a bit.

After seeing some pics of what those can destroy after going nuclear, I think it would be well advised for owners of these to get in and replace them. If you can do a AA5 radio, this can surely be done, not bad at all. One other note, Jestine Yong on his site mention taking out 5 screws on the bottom to get the boards out. On mine at least, these did not need to be removed. I could use some advice on how to get the filter cap black cover off without breaking it??? Re: Got my dream scope today, Tek by flanneltuba » Mar Sun 01, pm The black cover is held by just one barbed clip in the very middle of the thing.

You'll need a smallish flat blade screwdriver to push it over to one side and it will unclip and the top will come off easily. It if isn't coming off easily, you haven't unclipped it. You might be able to see the barbed end of the plastic clip by peering underneath the black box.
