I know the smug fanboy choir will tell me to watch a Transformers movie instead. Hey, if you liked this movie, good for you. I thought it was a painfully boring pretentious mess without any kind of narrative drive or interesting characters to speak of. In other words, much like the original Blade Runner then. It's all glossy surface and pretty visuals.
Denis Villeneuve is one of the most uneven filmmakers working today, in my opinion. I haven't been able to see any of his earlier work like Incendies or Polytechnique. The first Villeneuve movie I saw was Prisoners, and that was absolutely fantastic. I loved it. I was not too fond of his next movie, Enemy. Sicario was great on a second viewing. Arrival was a pretentious dumpster fire.

This movie made me appreciate the first one so much more, seriously underrated

One of the best movie Ive seen in long time. Dont know why it doesnt make a lot box office money. Seem like fantastic and amazing clever story/movies never make much money because they are the best movies... I wasn't expecting it to be so cute. Eliza dancing with Giles while they watch show tunes, her friendship with Zelda, that first music scene with the creature. So many good scenes. It is the perfect sequel to a jewel that did not need any sequel. I just watched it. I look forward to watch it 3 or 4 more times to get it better. And I watched the original one well over 200 times. I'm not the only one apparently. Both are rare masterpieces of art cinematography, in a genre filled with bad blockbusters. Yes indeed 2001 A Space Odyssey is a good movie, so are The Matrix § Interstellar, The Andromeda Strain § Ex Machina (etc. But none of those have such a magical photography, perfect soundtrack (especially Blade Runner) top quality acting, every detail so masterfully crafted § presenting you some of the most important subjects a human being could get into, and leave you with decades of questionning after having watched them. Both of those movies set the trends, others follow. I wonder what Denis Villeneuve is going to do with Dune. Most probably an instant classic science fiction 'll see. To my opinion, Blade Runner § Blade Runner 2049 stand above any other science fiction/anticipation movie, and each of them is the ultimate sf masterpiece of its generation. But that's just me, officer A speaking.
