Kokubunji: Gallery Sablier
Kokubunji, known as a student & creative hood in the west Tokyo, has lots of smaller art galleries.
Today's pick up, Sablier is one of them with an easy 1-minute walking access from JR Kokubunji Station.
Underneath Apartment
Getting out of the South Exit of the Sta, just go left & keep walking until you see this sign on the wall of apartment building with 80's vibe on your left.
There are some businesses in this unusual space but Gallery Sablier definitely matches to the atmosphere the hood has.
Yoko Nishida
On the day I went to the gallery, it was the last day of a private exhibition by Tokyo-based etching artist, Yoko Nishida.
Luckily, I was able to have a deep talk with her at the site & it revealed her struggles as an etching artist.
But as long as seeing her works displayed there, those various hurdles continuously appear in her creative activity seem to have been well removed by her thoughtfulness.
Antique Stuff
Not only did they feature her quality artworks, but also had a collection of vintage objects & home decoration stuff.
These antiques were a perfect fit for the atmosphere of the gallery itself & furthermore, it was strengthening the presence of Ms. Nishida's artworks effectively.
Super Nice Manager
One more thing to be mentioned about this place is a wonderful female manager of this space, who is also working as an architect behind the wall.
Just visit the gallery after checking the exhibition schedule, to meet her & her beautiful collection of antique ceiling lamps!
Thanks for reading.
